Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the first books written and published about the assassination was "Rush To Judgement". It was authored by an attorney hired by Lee Oswald's mother Marguerite to prove her late son's innocence. Who was this attorney?

Answer: Mark Lane

"Rush to Judgement" was very controversial because it not only challenged the conventional wisdom that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin but was harshly critical of the investigation of the shooting and the Warren Commission's conclusion that Oswald acted alone.
2. "On The Trail Of The Assassins" was the book that inspired the movie "JFK". Who was the author?

Answer: Jim Garrison

Jim Garrison was the former New Orleans prosecutor who risked his life, his career and his marriage to prove that the Kennedy assassination was the result of a conspiracy. He went so far as to bring Clay Shaw, one of his perceived co-conspirators, to trial. Shaw was acquitted of the charges. Garrison made a cameo appearance in the movie "JFK".
3. William Manchester wrote an impartial and thorough account of President Kennedy's death. What was its title?

Answer: Death of A President

"The Day Kennedy Was Shot" was written by Jim Bishop, who also wrote "The Day Christ Died" and "The Day Lincoln Was Shot". "Six Seconds In Dallas" was written by Josiah Thompson, a conspiracy theorist. "Johnny We Hardly Knew Ye" was written by David Powers, Kenneth O'Donnell and Joe McCarthy. The title was based on an old Irish folk song from the 19th century.
4. "11/22/63" is a novel about a man who travels back in time to try to prevent the shooting of President Kennedy. What well-known writer authored this book?

Answer: Stephen King

Even if you aren't normally a Stephen King fan I highly recommend this book. Stories of time travel are almost always interesting and complicated. This one is no exception.
5. How many volumes does the Warren Commission report on the Kennedy assassination consist of?

Answer: 26

Almost from the moment it was released, the Warren Report drew fire from critics and conspiracy theorists, citing flaws in the investigation and interrogation of witnesses.
6. One book proposed the existence of an Oswald look-alike. It was written by Richard Popkin. What was the title?

Answer: The Second Oswald

"The Second Oswald" is a fascinating account of Oswald's whereabouts at various times leading up to the assassination while espousing the theory that an Oswald look-alike was the actual assassin of the President.
7. Then Congressman Gerald Ford, a member of the Warren Commission, wrote a book about Lee Harvey Oswald after the Commission issued its findings. What was the title?

Answer: Portrait of the Assassin

Ford, of course, would go on to become President following the resignation of Richard Nixon. He continued to defend the Warren Commission and his stance that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin of President Kennedy.
8. "Mafia Kingfish" is a book that links the Mafia to the Kennedy assassination through the confessions of a New Orleans mafia leader. Who was this "Mafia Kingfish"?

Answer: Carlos Marcello

"Mafia Kingfish" was written by John H. Davis. Although of Italian heritage, Carlos Marcello was born in Tunis, North Africa in 1910 but emigrated with his family to America in 1911.
9. 'They've Killed The President - The Search for the Murderers of John F. Kennedy" is another account of the investigations of private citizens who don't accept the Warren Commission's conclusions. Who was its author?

Answer: Robert Sam Anson

Josiah Thompson wrote "Six Seconds In Dallas". Gerald Posner wrote "Case Closed" and Robert Anton Wilson was co-author with Robert Shea of "The Illuminati Trilogy". The latter was a novel in three parts, one of which included a section on the assassination with yet another alternative scenario.
10. "Reclaiming History" is one of the few books that supports the theory that Oswald acted alone. The author was a well-known attorney. Who is the author?

Answer: Vincent Bugliosi

Vincent Bugliosi was the prosecuting attorney in the Charles Manson murder trial. He also faced Gerry Spence in the TV special "The Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald", a "what if" trial staged for London television and later aired on HBO. Actual witnesses were used. The jury in that "trial" found Oswald guilty. Spence acted as Oswald's defense attorney.
