Answer: Rich Man, Poor Man

"Rich Man, Poor Man" was made into one of the first very successful mini-series, back in 1976, and the New English Library version of the novel I have has 636 pages. "The Money Changers" was written by Arthur Hailey; "A Clash of Kings" was penned by George R. R. Martin; "Debt of Honour" was scribed by Tom Clancy.
2. One of my favourite books just leapt off the shelf at me. In fact, that's where my screen name came from. What is the first book in Douglas Adams' trilogy (written in five parts)?

Answer: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Of course, ALL of these books were written by the wonderful, late Douglas Adams, but the first book of the trilogy was "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", followed by "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe"; "Life, The Universe and Everything"; "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish". The last book was "Mostly Harmless".

Eoin Colfer wrote a sixth book in the series in 2009 "And Another Thing...."
3. Michael Crichton is a favourite author and I have many of his books on my bookshelf. We all know his work from television's "E.R." scripts, but what book was his first novel to be made into a film, in 1971?

Answer: The Andromeda Strain

"The Andromeda Strain" was written in 1968 when Michael Crichton was only 26. All three other novels mentioned are Crichton's and were also made into films: "The Terminal Man", with George Segal, in 1974; "Jurassic Park", with Sam Neill and Laura Dern, in 1993; and "Congo", with Laura Linney, in 1995.

Matthew Reilly was born in 1974 and self-published his first book "Contest" at the age of 22, which he wrote whilst studying law. It was re-published in 2000, after the runaway success of his first novel released by a major publisher, "Ice Station".

Denzel starred as Lincoln Rhyme and Angelina played Amelia Donaghy (although her character was Amelia Sachs in the book). The book was first published in 1997, and the film made in 1999.

Patricia Cornwell has written many novels; her main character is Kay Scarpetta, who even has her own cookbook!. Patricia Cornwell is the Director of Applied Forensic Science at the National Forensic Academy.

Robert Ludlum has had quite a checkered career; he was a US Marine, an actor and a theatrical producer who turned to writing at the age of 40. "The Grail Conspiracy" was written by Lyn Scholes and Joe Moore; "Declare" was written by Tim Powers; and "Ex-Libris" was written by Ross King. All are in the same vein as "The Da Vinci Code".

All are novels authored by Robin Cook. He is a doctor of medicine himself, an ophthalmologist. "Coma" was first published in 1977, and certainly made anyone about to have surgery a little nervous! The film starred Genevieve Bujold, Michael Douglas and Rip Torn.

"The Shawshank Redemption" was originally a short story by Stephen King called 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption'. The film released in 1994 starred Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. "Forrest Gump", a film also released in 1994, was based on a book by Winston Groom. "The Witches of Eastwick" was adapted from a book by John Updike. "Mystic River", a film released in 2003, was based on a book written by Dennis Lehane.
