Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Lena's new name that she uses in Brooklyn on her ID?

Answer: Lena Morgan Jones

Lena's Brooklyn name is Lena Morgan Jones. On the second page of "Pandemonium", Lena is snapped out of her nightmare about Alex by her teacher, Mrs. Fierstein. Her fake name is also mentioned multiple more times throughout the story, such as right before Lena goes to rescue Julian from the hospital.
2. Who rescues Lena when she first enters the Wilds alone and passes out?

Answer: Raven

Raven is the one who rescues Lena when she passes out. You hear her mention Bram's name, but he is not the one who actually rescued her. Alex is dead until the end of "Pandemonium", so you should assume that's not possible.
3. The first person Lena sees at the homestead besides Raven is whom?

Answer: Blue

Again, Lena does hear Raven saying Bram's name right as she is rescued, but she does not actually know who he is until Sarah tells her about him, nor does she see him. Blue is the first person Lena sees besides Raven; she is curious to see "the new girl", Lena, and does not want to go to bed.
4. When Lena wakes up at the homestead, what does Raven give her to eat?

Answer: broth

The first thing Lena eats at the Wilds is broth. It's described as a "mostly clear broth, tinged with just a bit of green". Raven tells Lena not to eat it too fast, but Lena is extremely hungry and does so anyway: "My throat feels as raw as sandpaper and the broth is heaven against it, and even though it has a weird mossy aftertaste, I find myself gulping and slurping down the whole bowl. 'Slowly,' the girl says, but I can't stop." Then later, she vomits it all back up.
5. Who leaves the dining table so Lena can sit during her first meal with all the homesteaders?

Answer: Squirrel

Squirrel leaves the table so Lena can sit, not willingly. Raven forces him to: "Then get up. Lena needs a place to sit." Squirrel looks at his plate sadly, as if he were trying to will more to appear there, but when he tries to protest, Raven is firm.
6. Who shows Lena around the homestead?

Answer: Sarah

Sarah shows Lena around the homestead, taking her on a tour. Lena has to stop and rest a couple of times due to her lack of energy though, but they manage to see the town, a school, a church, a pizza restaurant, a deli, and a grocery store.
7. Where do the homesteaders get their clothes from?

Answer: Lockers from a burnt-down school

While Sarah and Lena are walking around the homestead, they come upon a school bombed during the blitz and burnt during the fires that came after. The lockers were still standing and Sarah explains that some of the lockers were open and still had clothes in them, and she looks guilty, implying they took the clothes.
8. When did Lena leave Portland?

Answer: August 21

Lena becomes exhausted while walking around the homestead with Sarah and has to sit down to rest. While she is resting, she asks Sarah what day it is because she realizes she doesn't even know. Sarah tells her it's August 27 and Lena says she left Portland on August 21.
9. What does DFA stand for?

Answer: "Deliria"-Free America

Lena tells us DFA stands for "Deliria"-Free America when she mentions it to get herself off the hook with Mrs. Tulle, the principal. Besides, all the other ones don't make sense. It's also very logical it would be "Deliria"-Free America because the whole "Delirium" series is based around the topic of the "deliria", love.
10. The people who live in the bordered communities call the land beyond the border the Wilds. What do the homesteaders call the bordered communities' land?

Answer: Zombieland

The homesteaders call the citizens of the bordered communities, the cureds, "zombies" because of how emotionless they are after they receive the cure and how blindly they follow the government's orders. So, hand in hand, the zombies live in Zombieland.
11. Who goes with Raven and Lena to get water from the stream?

Answer: Bram

Bram goes with the girls to the stream to fetch water, but leaves before them because Lena is slacking. She has much trouble carrying the buckets and has to stop every few feet. At last, she makes it back to the homestead after two hours, with three blisters. Bram reminds Lena of her friendship with Hana because he is Hunter's best friend and Hunter is blond and he is dark-haired, like Hana and Lena.
12. What day was Hana cured?

Answer: September 25

Hana is cured on September 25. The passage where it says this goes: "It's not until the following morning that I realize what day it is: September 26. Hana was cured yesterday. Hana is gone. I have not cried since Alex died." You got tricked if you remembered September 26, because she said Hana was cured yesterday.
13. What does Lena use as her mantra when she begins to run again during her short daily runs?

Answer: "Alex is alive."

Lena tells herself repeatedly, "Alex is alive, Alex is alive." She uses her mantra as a way to push herself to run harder, faster, farther. She tells herself: "If I can run all the way to the old bank-lungs exploding, thighs shaking-then Alex will be alive," and "If I can make it to that tree, then Alex is alive." She says she used to play mental games like that with Hana when they ran in Portland.

She says running is both a mental and physical sport--not only does your body have to be able to run that distance, you have to train your mind to want to get there, to make it a goal to get there. If you don't believe yourself, you'll never make it. And Lena says. . . someday, Alex will be there, when she looks back. If only she knew how right she was.
14. After the DFA meeting in Brooklyn, what does Lena have to go back to get?

Answer: Her glove

Lena has been waiting in line for half an hour when she realizes she left her glove behind. She is tempted to just leave the glove, but considers it Raven's way. Raven tells her that they cannot afford to waste things. "Waste today, want tomorrow." And so Lena goes back to get her glove.
15. Which of these does Lena NOT see on the projector screen in the auditorium?

Answer: A field of flowers

Lena never saw a field of flowers. She was watching as the images projected on the screen: "I can make out a dense ring out of trees, like a black fur, at its base, and the sharp, bladelike peaks at its summit, crowned with lacy white caps. My breath catches a little.

It's beautiful. Then the picture changes. This time I am looking at a pale, sandy beach, and a swirling, blue-green ocean. I take several steps into the room, suppressing a cry. I haven't seen the ocean since leaving Portland. The picture changes again. Now the screen is full of huge trees, shooting up toward the sky, which is just visible through the canopy of thick branches. Sunlight slants at steep angles across the reddish trunks and the undergrowth of curling green ferns and flowers." Then she bumped into a chair and got busted. . .
16. What are Raven and Tack's fake Brooklyn ID names?

Answer: Rebecca and Thomas

As Lena comes home, next to the mail she sees a silver tray and inside this silver tray sit the IDs of Raven and Tack, which read Rebecca Ann Sherman and Thomas Clive Sherman. She says they put their IDs and all their identification papers there in case of a raid or census.
17. What position does Julian's father hold in the DFA?

Answer: Founder

"Under the high fluorescent lights, his hair shines a brilliant black, like a helmet. This is Thomas Fineman, the founder of the DFA." He is very into the prospect of giving the cure earlier despite the possible consequences, for the DFA believes "sometimes it is necessary that individuals are sacrificed for the health of the whole." Lena also contrasts Julian and his father, saying his father is dark-haired while Julian's is sheer blond, like Hana and herself, or Bram and Hunter.
18. Who is the scientist who is credited for performing the first successful cure?

Answer: Cormac T. Holmes

At the back of Lena's apartment in Brooklyn, there is the kitchen. In the kitchen, there is a picture of Thomas Fineman and Cormac T. Holmes on the wall, above the table, and she proceeds to tell us who Cormac T. Holmes is.
19. Who is Lena's closest friend at the homestead?

Answer: Hunter

Hunter is Lena's best friend at the homestead. At dinner, they sit together, and sometimes stay up talking. She also says he makes her laugh when she believed she would never laugh again. She also makes it clear that she only thinks of Hunter as a friend, nothing more.
20. Who does Blue remind Lena of?

Answer: Grace

Lena doesn't hate Blue, but she tries to avoid her because every time she sees her, she is reminded of her cousin, quiet, young Grace. She says it not Blue's fault she left Grace behind, yet she still feels anxious to get away from Blue whenever she's around her. Hunter asked her about it once.
