Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You have just entered the city of Meung. You have been traveling a lot and you're tired. Approaching an inn, you hear laughing from inside and you realise that you are the subject of the jokes. What is so funny about you?

Answer: your horse

Everyone was laughing at d'Artagnan's horse, of course. He had an orange mare, very skinny and dumb-looking. She was a gift from his father, otherwise he would have chosen another horse for his trip.
2. You finally arrive in Paris and manage to get an audience with Treville, the musketeer captain. While in his office, three musketeers enter without being announced. Before you get a chance to have a better look at them, one of the musketeers faints and everyone gathers around him. You later find out that he had been wounded and that his name is...

Answer: Athos

Athos had a very noble heart. Even though he had been wounded in a duel with the cardinal's guards, he continued to do his job. As seen, the wound was too painful for him to carry on.
3. Now you've done it! You managed to get yourself into a big mess. Three duels in the same day, with the most famous and brave musketeers. Just as you are about to start your first encounter, with Athos, having Porthos and Aramis as witnesses, five of the cardinal's guards appear from nowhere. What happens next?

Answer: you fight side by side with Athos, Porthos and Aramis

Being eager to become a musketeer, d'Artagnan chooses to fight on the musketeers' side. Together, they defeat the cardinal's guards.
4. In the end, you and the three musketeers become best friends. Porthos even finds you a servant, who will assist you in the many great adventures that are yet to come. What is his name?

Answer: Planchet

Planchet is a very wise and brave man and he believes that d'Artagnan will get rich. That's why he remains beside him. But, in the end, he begins to care for his master and becomes a loyal servant.
5. In unusual circumstances, you meet your true love, Constance Bonacieux. You find out that she is secretly serving the Queen. At her request, you engage in a dangerous journey along with your friends. You will have to save the Queen's honour. What is your mission?

Answer: to retrieve the jewels the Queen had given to Buckingham

The cardinal knew about the diamonds and, in his evil plot, advised the King to demand that the Queen wear them at the future ball. He hoped that, in this way, the Queen's relationship with Buckingham would come out in the open. D'Artagnan managed to ruin his plans by bringing back the jewels in time.
6. You bravely succeed in your mission, making the Queen so grateful, that she wants to thank you in person. The night of the ball, Constance takes you into the Royal Palace and tells you to wait in a room. After a while, you hear the Queen behind the tapestry and you see her extend her hand towards you. This was the greatest honour she could give you. Go on, kiss it! But what is that thing she drops in your hand?

Answer: a diamond ring

Saving the Queen's honour is a great privilege. D'Artagnan was very proud of the gift he got, even though Treville advised him not to wear it, and warned him to look out for the Cardinal's spies.
7. After Constance mysteriously disappears, fate finds you in another woman's arms, Milady de Winter. She lets you believe you're quite a charmer, but she is actually angry with you because you didn't kill her brother-in-law when you had the chance. Why does she want him dead?

Answer: because she wanted to inherit his entire wealth

Lord de Winter was the brother of her late husband, whom she had killed for his estate. No one found out about it. This wasn't enough for Milady, though. She wanted even her brother-in-law's wealth, and that could be possible only if he was dead.
8. You've done it again! A few nights ago you entered Milady's dark bedroom, making her believe that you were the man she loves, Count de Wardes. At Athos' advice you stopped this pretending game, and refused in the name of de Wardes to continue seeing her. Feeling insulted, she asked you, as a proof of love and loyalty towards her, to kill the count. Finding out the monster she really is, you told her the truth, and accidentally discovered a little secret of her own. She has a tattoo on her left shoulder. What does it represent?

Answer: a lily, symbol of French justice

The executioner in Lille tattooed her because his brother died on her account. In France every criminal was branded with the symbol of the white lily.
9. Now Milady is history for you. She presents no longer a passion, but a great danger. Keep your eyes open! Meanwhile, you have to prepare for war. Ready? In a few days you find yourself on the way to La Rochelle. Are your friends, Athos, Porthos and Aramis with you?

Answer: No

They weren't together because d'Artagnan had to leave first, among the guards of Monsieur des Essarts. Athos, Porthos and Aramis were to leave a few days later, with the musketeer company and the king.
10. War life isn't that easy. La Rochelle has been resisting so far and probably will for a long time. "Oh, how a glass of wine would make life less miserable", you think. Wait, what's that? Looks like your wish came true. twelve bottles of Anjou wine have arrived just for you. Don't drink it! They're poisoned! Guess who sent it?

Answer: Milady de Winter

Along with the wine, a fake letter had been sent. It was signed by Godeau, an inn-keeper who was saying that Athos, Porthos and Aramis had enjoyed the Anjou wine so much, that they decided to send their friend some too. Of course this was another one of Milady's evil plans to get rid of our hero.
11. Your friends finally arrive. Now it's time for the great deed you accomplish on the Saint-Gervais bulwark. You and the three musketeers bravely defeat the outnumbering Huguenots, fact which will become history. Hearing about it, Cardinal Richelieu has sent for you. What's going to happen next?

Answer: Richelieu will make you a musketeer

Richelieu finally makes d'Artagnan's dream come true. The fresh musketeer couldn't be any happier, walking around the camp all day long, showing off his new suit.
12. Hurry, d'Artagnan ! Your dearest Constance is at the monastery in Bethune and Milady is with her. This villain never gives up. Good, you have arrived. Go, Constance is waiting. She tells you how much she loves you and that she has been waiting for you. You're too late, though. Milady is gone. What's happening ? Constance is sick and now she dies in your arms. You can't stand the pain, so you faint. What has Milady done to your love ?

Answer: she has poisoned her

Before the musketeers arrived at the monastery, Milady had given a poisoned drink to Madame Bonacieux, pretending to be her helping friend. But poor Constance was deceived by this evil woman and she died, leaving d'Artagnan heartbroken.
13. That's it! Justice must be done! Find Milady at once and judge her for her sins. Athos knows someone who can help you. Who is that person ?

Answer: the executioner in Lille

Athos knew that the executioner in Lille was very much familiar with Milady's demonic mind. That's why he asked for his help.
14. In every story the villain is always defeated. What becomes of Milady?

Answer: none of these

After being sentenced to death, the executioner beheaded her on the left shore of Lys river. Among her last words were these: "I'm lost, I must die."
15. Congratulations! You have almost completed your task. Thanks to you, d'Artagnan is now a hero. Answering this question will bring you back into your own time. Amazed by your skills and acts of bravery, Cardinal Richelieu decided to offer you a blank commission for the position of musketeer lieutenant. Whose name will you write on it?

Answer: your own

First, d'Artagnan asked Porthos to sign his name on the paper, but he refused, because he wanted to marry Madame Coquenard and give up his musketeer coat. Next, he proposed it to Aramis, but he wanted to become a churchman. On his last attempt, Athos took the commission and wrote down "d'Artagnan".
