Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the Bennet sisters' names, from eldest to youngest?

Answer: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, Lydia

The two eldest are close friends, and the two youngest like to flirt with officers together. The middle daughter, Mary, is pseudo-scholarly, plain, and pompous.
2. Why did Mr. Bennet marry his wife?

Answer: She was very pretty.

Mr. Bennet probably regretted his decision soon after his marriage. The Bennets' marriage is reminiscent of the Palmers' marriage in 'Sense and Sensibility.'
3. Which words best describe Mrs. Bennet?

Answer: vulgar and talkative

Mrs. Bennet's chief concern is to get her five daughters married.
4. Who are Elizabeth's two favorite family members?

Answer: Jane and Mr. Bennet

Elizabeth is good friends with her eldest sister and she enjoys her father's wit and intelligence. However, she is aware of mistakes Mr. Bennet makes.
5. Who is Mr. Hurst?

Answer: Mr. Bingley's brother-in-law

Mr. Bingley has two sisters: Miss Caroline Bingley, and Mrs. Hurst.
6. Why does Mr. Collins propose to Charlotte Lucas?

Answer: She's nice to him after Elizabeth turns him down.

Elizabeth is appalled when her sensible friend Charlotte accepts Mr. Collins' proposal.
7. When does Elizabeth first begin to change her mind about Mr. Darcy?

Answer: after she reads his letter concerning Wickham, Jane, and other matters

As soon as Elizabeth realizes that some of her assumptions about Darcy are incorrect, she begins to become aware of his good qualities.
8. Why does Wickham marry Lydia?

Answer: Apparently, Mr. Darcy gives him money.

After Elizabeth tells Darcy of her family's trouble, he goes to London, finds Wickham and Lydia (living in sin, presumably), and makes it worth Wickham's while to marry the youngest Miss Bennet.
9. What ultimate effect does Lady Catherine's visit to Elizabeth have on Darcy?

Answer: It makes him aware that Elizabeth may be willing to marry him.

Lady Catherine means to prevent her nephew's marriage to Elizabeth, but her visit has the opposite effect.
10. How does Mrs. Bennet feel about Elizabeth's engagement to Darcy?

Answer: Since he is so wealthy, she is absolutely thrilled.

Mrs. Bennet has always disliked Darcy for his disdainful behavior, but as soon as he becomes engaged to Elizabeth, Mrs. B. does an about face (since Darcy is even richer than Bingley).
