Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. People live and die in the space of eight days. Two young people set out to change this.

Answer: Frost and Fire

Incidentally, the world they live on is highly radioactive, which is the cause of their greatly accelerated lives. Sim and Lyte, the two young people, find a space ship that is able to take the people from the planet to a place where they can live life fully.
2. A man is selected to become a part of a society that will make him young again. . .with a picture.

Answer: Dorian in Excelsus

This story is based on the book "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. This story is about a man who stays young, while a hidden picture grows old, showing all the hidden depravity of Dorian's life.
3. A boy teaches the man who owns the shoe shop to be young again, by getting him to try on a pair of his own shoes.

Answer: The Sound of Summer Running

This story was originally part of the book "Dandelion Wine", but it is also in some of his other books of short stories.
4. In the playroom something lurks. . .teeth, fur, claws, and the parents are gone.

Answer: The Veldt

The playroom in question is a playground with screens for walls. The children always put the setting on the African Veldt. It becomes far too alive, as the parents soon find out.
5. A giant spider and one man's dream to poison it. The poisoned bait? Himself.

Answer: The Finnegan

The spider in question is a giant trapdoor spider. It had already sucked the blood from three children. It had to be stopped. It's name comes from a simple childhood saying: "In again, out again, Finnegan."
6. A young couple are going to have a much wanted child. They had been about to have an inconvenient child earlier but had had a miscarriage. During the pregnancy, the first child comes and speaks to them through the baby the woman is carrying.

Answer: Remember Sascha?

Sascha was what they had decided to call their first child. He had left them because he had realised he had not been wanted. The Parents had missed him after he had left and Sascha had come back to say Goodbye. They were able to talk to him all through the pregnancy, but the day their new child was born, Sascha left and they never heard from him again.
7. A man looks normal, until you look at him through a coloured bit of glass, through which you can see his organs. He is not like other people inside. A boy cuts him open to rid the world of what is soon found to be a vampire.

Answer: The Man Upstairs

Even after the little boy cuts him open and removes his organs, this Vampire isn't dead. He does not die until the boy empties his piggy bank inside him. The silver is what kills the vampire.
8. A family goes to Mars in a homemade rocket to see the Martians. They are the only family on Mars and they expect never to return to earth.

Answer: The Million Year Picnic

This has one of Ray Bradbury's coolest similes. He talks about thoughts swimming around like fishes in the mother's eyes. Also, when the father takes the family to see the Martians, he takes them to a mirrorlike pool in which they see their own faces.
9. A crew of men are sucked out of their ruined spaceship and slowly disintegrate as they follow the way of all space debris.

Answer: The Kaleidoscope

In the end of this story, A man named Hollis hits earth's atmosphere and burns. On earth, a little boy wishes on a falling star.
10. The Martians are gone. The People on Mars slowly change until they replace the Martians, beginning the life cycle again.

Answer: Dark They Were and Golden Eyed

The original Martians were wiped out by Chicken Pox, but they will never be gone as long as other people long to settle the final frontier. Mars always calls her settlers to herself.
