On May 27, 1934, in Cleveland , Ohio...to be exact. Harlan's family moved to Painesville Ohio when Harlan was very young, but they later returned to Cleveland.

Ellison was first married in 1956. In 1986, Ellison married Susan Toth, his fifth wife.

Harlan's contributions to the "Outer Limits" include "Soldier" and "Demon With A Glass Hand". He also penned "City on the Edge of Forever" for "Star Trek", but no stories for the original "Zone".

Another Hugo Award winner "Paladin of the Lost Hour" starred Danny Kaye as Gaspar and Glynn Turman as Billy. It was part of the seventh episode of the new series which aired in 1985.

Harlan Jay Ellison. On occasion, Harlan will use his middle name as part of the pen name "Jay Solo". But his most famous pen name is "Cordwainer Bird". Harlan uses this nom de plume when he is unhappy with the treatment his work has received. Ellison used this name when the TV series he was involved with, "The Starlost", failed to meet his expectations.
