Shortly before the Ninth Cave left for the Summer Meeting, a 12 year old boy named Bologan was injured. His 10 year old sister, Lanoga, found him inside the family's dwelling and went to the dwelling of Marthona, because someone told her that Zelandoni was visiting there.

When Zelandoni and Ayla arrived at Lanoga's family's dwelling, Ayla was shocked to see the baby, Lorala, who was approximately six months old, with no teeth and scrawny. Ayla questioned Lanoga about Lorala, and was told that her mother's milk had dried up. Ayla asked how Lanoga was feeding the baby, and Lanoga told her that she was feeding Lorala mashed up boiled roots.

The day after Ayla and Zelandoni brought Bologan to Zelandoni's dwelling, Ayla took Lanoga and Lorala to a small stream to get a bath, because both of them were filthy. That same day, Ayla brought Lanoga and Lorala to Proleva's dwelling, where there was a meeting of mothers.

Some of the mothers were nursing or about to give birth. Ayla talked to the mothers about nursing Lorala.

The mothers decided to help the baby. If it wasn't for Ayla stepping in, Lorala would have died.

Proleva is Joharran's mate, and mother of Jaradal. She is also in charge of putting together feasts for special occasions.

Jondecam is Levela's mate. He is also Kimeran's nephew and son the Zelandoni of The Second Cave.

Echozar's mother was a Clan woman. She was raped by one of the Others, and became pregnant. When her Clan found she was pregnant they kept her. When she gave birth to her son, the Clan thought he was deformed and cursed her with death. After she was forced to leave the security of the Clan, she got to know Andovan, and he helped her raise Echozar. Echozar was a child of mixed spirits, but was able to learn speech. Andovan taught him how to talk, while Yoma taught him the sign language of the Clan. Shortly after Andovan died, Yoma died, too. Echozar was left by himself and when he tried to join a Clan, they threw stones at him, when he tried to join a Cave, they called him an abomination. Finally, being able to take it any longer, Echozar tried to take his own life, but was saved by Dalanar. Echozar was adopted into the First Cave of The Lanzadonii, and became prommised to Joplaya, Dalanar's daughter.

Answer: Kimeran

Kimeran is the leader of the Second Cave, which is also known as Elder Hearth. He is the brother of Zelandoni of the Second Cave, and the uncle of Jondecam.

Madroman was formerly called Ladroman. When Ladroman and Jondalar came of age, they both wanted Zolena to be their donii-woman, but Zolena only wanted Jondalar. Against their better judgment, Zolena and Jondalar fell in love. Jondalar asked Zolena to mate with him, and she said yes, but they were unaware that Ladroman was eavesdropping. Ladroman told everyone about the young couple's plan, and Jondalar, being very upset, punched Ladroman in the mouth, knocking the man's two front teeth out.

Answer: Tremeda

Tremeda, mother of Bologan, Lanoga, and Lorala, and mate of Laramar, drank as much barma as Laramar could make. She left her dwelling a filthy mess, and didn't care if her youngest daughter, Lorala, had enough to eat.

Answer: Solaban

Solaban, mate to Ramara, is the person whom Joharran confides in. He is Joharran's second in command, and adviser.

Answer: Laramar

Laramar isn't well liked by the Ninth cave. He's dirty and unkempt, and he tries to belittle Marthona any chance he gets. He dislikes Ayla ever since she stood with Marthona's family at the burial.

Answer: Janida

Janida was a 12 year old girl who was pregnant before she had First Rites. The father of the baby, Peridal, who was 14 years old, wanted to mate her at the Summer Meeting, but his mom kept getting in the way. Finally, Peridal's mother relented and the young couple were mated at the same ceremony as Ayla and Jondalar.

Answer: Rushemar

Rushemar, mate to Salova, is also an adviser and friend of Joharran.

Answer: Ahnlay

Ahnlay died shortly after she, Hochaman, and Jerika arrived in the land of the Zelandonii. This was mentioned in the book 'The Plains of Passage'. Although how she died was mention, her name was not. It wasn't until "The Shelters of Stone" that her name was mentioned.

Wylopa helped Marona, Portula, and Lorava humiliate Ayla.

Answer: Palidar

Palidar had found two dead wolves and saved some fur and extracted the teeth. He was also threatened by Wolf.

Answer: Willamar

Willamar, mate to Marthona and father of Thonolan and Folara, is the Trade Master. He is also a well known traveler.

Answer: Lanidar

Lanidar, who has a deformed right arm, promised to mate with Lanoga once she became a woman. He did this so her sister, Lorala, wouldn't have to be adopted by another woman.

Answer: Stelona

Stelona is the primary woman who nurses Lorala. Stelona has a child of her own, but has enough milk to nurse Lorala.

Answer: Denanna

Denanna is the leader of all of the holdings of the Twenty-Ninth Cave, which is also known as Three Rocks. Three Rocks is comprised of Reflection Rock, South Holding, North Holding, and West Holding. Even though it has four holdings it is named Three Rocks.

Little Valley is situated between Big Rock and High Rock.

Two Rivers Rock is located near River Place and The Shelter.

Elder Hearth is located between Horsehead Rock and Horse Heart.

Hochman was originally from Asia. He travelled farther than anyone had ever heard about. His dream was to see the Big Waters of The East. When he got as far as the Zelandonii, Dalanar carried him on his back to the Big Waters of The East.

Horsehead Rock is located near Elder Hearth and Horse Heart.
