Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the story began, which holiday was it that brought the four sisters home?

Answer: Fourth of July

The book started off with a back story on each sister, starting with the youngest and ending with the eldest. While each woman was successful and independent, each back story included the fact that they all loved each other dearly and never missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the annual fourth of July party at home.
2. Candy is the youngest sister and a supermodel.

Answer: True

The youngest Adams sister is a world famous supermodel known simply as "Candy". She is the tallest sister at 6'1" and around 116 pounds. Her back story revealed her amazing success, which began unfolding at age seventeen. It also described her as highly dedicated, never complaining, and oddly naive for such a worldly woman. She was twenty-one when the story opened.
3. Annie is the third born Adams sister and a struggling artist. When the story begins, what country is she flying home from?

Answer: Italy

Annie was twenty-six when the tale started off, and felt as though she was the least like her other three sisters. Each of her other sisters had known commercial success, while Annie remained struggling. Her back story revealed her artistic talents, and that she still relied on her parents for financial support. Though they missed her dearly, her parents seemed okay with supporting her until she could make real money with her art.
4. Tammy is nearing thirty and living in Los Angeles when we read her back story. At which California university was it that she studied for her career in television?

Answer: UCLA

We found out that Tammy would be turning thirty years old in September, so two months away from the start of the book, and had not had a relationship in two years. She desperately loved her toy Chihuahua, Juanita, and was the producer on a top rated drama about female doctors.
5. Sabrina is a lawyer, who lives in which high profile city with her boyfriend?

Answer: New York

Sabrina was the oldest Adams sister at thirty-four. She and her longtime boyfriend lived happily unmarried in New York and both were lawyers. While Sabrina and Chris did not actually live together, they did spend many nights at one or the others' apartment. Chris and Sabrina have had a rich and full relationship full of shared professional experience, trips to the theater, hiking and playing tennis.

He was going home with her to Connecticut.
6. Who were Beulah and Juanita?

Answer: the sisters' dogs

Beulah is Sabrina and Chris' black and white harlequin basset hound. She's sixty pounds of spoiled love, who holds a grudge when she is alone too long. Chris had the better rapport with her overall, but she was really Sabrina's dog. Juanita is Tammy's little Chihuahua, who seemed to think she was Great Dane sized. She tormented the much larger Beulah after they arrived in Connecticut.

Candy has a little Yorkie named Zoe as well, who travels just about everywhere with Candy. When all of the ladies move in together, they have three female dogs to contend with!
7. Which sister was in the car with Jane Adams when the fatal accident occurred?

Answer: Annie

Annie and her mother Jane went out for a quick trip to the market, but were in an accident on their way home. A truck ahead of them lost a load of steel pipes and Jane couldn't get out of the way before they were hit. She was thrown from the car and killed instantly, but Annie survived. She was the only survivor out of eight people in various cars. The truck driver suffered no injuries and was devastated by the events.
Annie was severely injured and her eyesight left in jeopardy. An artist who cannot see, how sad is that?
8. Whose initial idea was it for the three sisters to move in together and take care of their injured sibling?

Answer: Sabrina's

After they buried their mother, and Sabrina talked to Annie's reluctant boyfriend Charlie, she came up with the idea to help Annie get back on her feet. She proposed that she, Tammy, and Candy rent an apartment or brownstone in New York City, and have Annie live there for at least the first year of her recovery.

At the initial proposition, Annie had awoken, but had not been informed of Jane's death or her own permanent blindness. Tammy was reluctant to give her life in Los Angeles, so Sabrina started off looking for a three bedroom on the Upper East Side. Sabrina's long time boyfriend, Chris, was completely supportive of the idea, and would keep his own apartment as well as share theirs with them.
9. Did Annie ever agree to attend the blind school in New York?

Answer: Yes

Expectedly, Annie took the loss of her sight badly. She became very depressed, at first refusing to move in with her sisters Candy and Sabrina and then refusing to attend the school. Sabrina was fair, but firm and honest, with Annie, explaining she really had no choice but to comply. Annie finally agreed to live with Sabrina and Candy, and then relented to the school. It was not until after Annie started at the Parker School for the Blind that her third sister, Tammy, wrapped her life up in Los Angeles and moved into their New York brownstone as well. I couldn't find any real school in NYC with that name.
10. What was the name of the lady that their father married on Valentine's Day?

Answer: Leslie

Much to the sisters' horror, their father decided to remarry only six months after the death of their mother. To make matters worse, he married a woman just a bit younger than his eldest daughter, Sabrina. The sisters knew Leslie, as she had tried to steal Sabrina's boyfriend when she was only fifteen. Leslie and Mr. Adams decided to elope to Vegas, and none of his daughters witnessed his wedding.
11. Annie met a man at her blind school, and he was also in charge of the school. Is is true that she and the man, Brad, became engaged to be married before the book's end?

Answer: Yes

Brad helped Annie on her first day, when she fell down after getting out of a taxi cab. As the months passed their acquaintance grew, but Annie was sure he was way older than she. She finally learned that he was 39, only 13 years older than she was, and agreed to an informal date.

Their relationship blossomed, as did Annie herself, and they became engaged during a summer trip on a cruise ship.
12. Which sister went missing, later found bound and drugged in a hotel room?

Answer: Candy- the model

Candy met a scandalous older man who, on the surface, seemed the worldly and passionate consort. While all her sisters could see through his faux debonair exterior, Candy felt swept up in his money, experience and love for fun. When Candy went missing, her sisters called Candy's agent.

The woman confirmed he had a reputation for ruining young girls' lives, and thought Candy had ended it. They found his hotel room, forced their way in, and found their sister drugged, bound, and nude on the bed. She'd been raped repeatedly, but blessedly had no memory of any of it. Candy became very conscientious after that, and always let her sisters know where she would be.
13. Which sister received a romantic marriage proposal on New Year's Eve?

Answer: Sabrina

After four years together, including almost a year of Sabrina living with her sisters, Chris finally proposed to her. He knew her trepidation about marriage and kids, but he knew what he wanted and he had to see if she'd agree. She sadly turned him down, and they ended their relationship.

It took a month for Sabrina to come to her senses, and she went to Chris and agreed to try living together when the lease was up on the brownstone.
14. After years of attracting only weirdos, Tammy finally met a normal man. What was his name?

Answer: John Sperry

Tammy met John briefly, liked him right off, but dismissed him just as quickly. She deemed him likable and normal, so she knew he'd never call her as he'd promised. He didn't call, but the reason turned out to be because he never got her phone number! When they met up again after the holidays, they began dating.

Their relationship turned out to be a wonderful change in Tammy's life. Not long after it began, she was offered a promising new TV drama to produce in New York. The plot mirrored her own recent experiences with her sisters, and she snatched it up right away. Maybe it was Los Angles that offered all those weirdos, and not Tammy who just attracted them?
15. Which of these statements is true, regarding the book's ending plot lines?

Answer: These are all truths about the plot

The girls' father informed his daughters that his new wife was pregnant and due in November! He stated that it most likely occurred on their wedding night. Tammy decided to stay in the brownstone after its owner called the realtor saying he was staying on in Vienna. Annie said she would stay there too, as it fit her plans. She also told her sisters that she and Brad would be married, and she would teach at the blind school. After her terrible experience with the rogue, Candy met a great young photographer's assistant on one of her shoots. His name was Paul and he attended Brown University in Rhode Island. Sabrina moved in with Chris, and began to warm to the idea of marriage and kids.

Thankfully, the novel only gave more hope as it went along. The start was so sad, it took me an unusually long time, three months, to finish it!
