Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Insomnia': A character from another well-known novel appears here. Who?

Answer: Mike Hanlon from 'It'

Mikey, a member of the 'Loser's Club' from 'It', is still the librarian in Derry. Ben Hanscom is also briefly mentioned in the novel, but Mike is one of the characters.
2. 'Bag of Bones': Jo's favorite author played a major role in another novel. Whom?

Answer: Bill Denbrough from 'It'

Mike says in the beginning that William Debrough is his wife's favorite author. Big Bill!
3. 'Rose Madder': In one scene, Anna reads a novel by whom?

Answer: Paul Sheldon

Rosie notices that Anna reads 'Misery's Journey' by Paul Sheldon, the unfortunate protagonist from 'Misery'.
4. 'Insomnia': In Atropos' store room, Ralph and Lois find things that belonged to people who died before their time had come. Among other things, they find a shoe that belonged to whom?

Answer: Gage Creed from 'Pet Sematary'

I know it's hard to find since it's only briefly mentioned. But everyone who read 'Pet Sematary' should have jumped at Gage's name and kept it in mind... I think Ralph and Lois also find something that belonged to Eddie Corcoran, a victim of 'It'. Atropos is the one who is responsible for deaths that shouldn't be, like little Gage being run over by a truck, and he kept a 'souvenir' from each of his victims.
5. 'Dreamcatcher': It's impossible to miss all those hints that point to another King novel. Which one?

Answer: It

The standpipe that doesn't exist anymore because of the flood of 1985... the memorial stone with the names of the 'Loser's Club' carved in... and the message 'Pennywise lives'. This message doesn't influence the story - but could it be a hint that there will be a sequel to 'It'?
6. 'It': During the story of the 'Black Spot', a character from another novel appears. Who?

Answer: Dick Hallorann from 'The Shining'

It's kind of a giveaway, because Dick Hallorann is the only person from the multiple choice answers who is African American... Will Hanlon tells Mike of a 'black cook' who sometimes seemed to know things...
7. 'Bag of Bones': Mike reads a newspaper and goes through the bestseller list. Who is number one there (not Jo's favorite)?

Answer: Thad Beamont (writing as George Stark)

Mike remembers Jo's favorite author, William Denbrough, and he sees that he isn't number one anymore. It's 'Thad Beaumont writing as George Stark'.
8. 'Desperation': A character from 'Rose Madder' reappears here. Who?

Answer: Cynthia

Cynthia, the thin girl whose ex-boyfriend tried to tear off one of her ears (ouch!). She is still somewhat tough despite her looks - she survives TAK as well as Norman's rage.
9. 'Misery': Annie tells Paul of the only building that is of interest in the area where she lives, because of a tragedy that happened there. What building?

Answer: The Overlook Hotel

It is only briefly mentioned. Annie talks of the Overlook Hotel, and that a caretaker there went mad and killed his family. That would be Grady, because Jack's family survived.
10. 'Insomnia': Near the ending of the book, young Patrick must be saved by Ralph and Lois. Patrick draws a picture of a man well-known from other novels. Whom?

Answer: Roland The Gunslinger

Patrick draws a man with guns, and when his mom asks him who this is, he replies: 'His name is Roland. He's a king, too.'
