Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When famous author Paul Sheldon got in a car crash, a woman named Annie Wilkes gave him mouth to mouth resuscitation. He wanted her to stop, because he didn't like the taste of what on her breath?

Answer: Vanilla cookies, chocolate ice cream, chicken gravy, and peanut butter fudge

When he was in the crash, he could feel a mouth clamp over his, and he could taste those four things as her breath entered him. He wanted it to stop, and when he got a breath of regular air, he thought that regular air never tasted better. She then took him to her house, where he could heal. There, she said, "I'm your number one fan."
2. To get rid of the pain, Annie gave him pills. What was the medication she gave him?

Answer: Novril

Annie gave Paul two capsules every six hours, and actually almost killed him with an accidental overdose. Paul even got addicted to the Novril as the story progressed.
3. After reading Paul's book "Misery's Child", Annie was angered when her favorite character, Misery Chastain, died in childbirth. After looking through his bag, she found a manuscript for his newest book, "Fast Cars". What did she make him do to it?

Answer: Burn it

After burning it, Annie forced Paul to write his best Misery novel ever, "Misery's Return", just for her. She gave him an old typewriter (which was missing an 'n'), so he could write the book.
4. Annie Wilkes did two things to Paul. One of them was cutting off his foot, for he snuck out of his room. After he was placed in a wheelchair, what did she do later?

Answer: Cut off his thumb

She just walked into the guest room (where he was staying), and cut off his thumb. She then lit it on fire and used it as a candle for his birthday cake.
5. Paul Sheldon finally finished "Misery's Return"! He had been held hostage by Annie Wilkes for months, and now he knew how to get out! He decided to trick her. He took the title page of the manuscript and put it on the pile of notes for the book. What did he do?

Answer: Burned it

He asked Annie for a cigarette, a match, and a bottle of Dom Perignone, for this is what he has every time he finishes a book. Once he had the cigarette and match, Annie left to get the champagne. Paul put the notes on the floor, doused them with lighter fluid (which he hid from Annie), and lit the match. Annie entered the room and dropped the champagne in shock. Paul set the notes on fire.
6. After the notes had been set on fire, Annie tried to put out the flames. Paul decided he could finally get rid of Annie! What did he do?

Answer: Bashed the typewriter against her back

After he hit her back with the typewriter, she got up and tried to kill him. They then were locked in an epic battle.
7. During their battle, Paul did what to Annie, hoping it would kill her once and for all?

Answer: He stuffed her mouth full of the burning pages of the manuscript

Annie was choking on the pages, but she was still fighting. It seemed as though she was impossible to kill.
8. Paul needed to get rid of Annie! She was going to kill him if he didn't do something! Wait! Something happened! What happened to Annie?

Answer: She tripped and hit her head on the typewriter

Annie cracked her skull, but still wouldn't give up. She decided she must kill Paul once and for all.
9. Annie had a cracked skull, but she was still fighting Paul! Wait! She got up and started running out to the barn! What on earth could she have been doing?

Answer: She was getting a chainsaw to kill Paul

Two state troopers eventually arrived and got Paul. Annie never came back; she died of her head injuries in the barn. Annie Wilkes was finally dead.
10. Since the only copy of "Misery's Return" wasn't destroyed after all, what happened to it?

Answer: Paul sent it in to get published

After being sent to the publisher, "Misery's Return" became yet another bestseller for Paul Sheldon.
