When he was in the crash, he could feel a mouth clamp over his, and he could taste those four things as her breath entered him. He wanted it to stop, and when he got a breath of regular air, he thought that regular air never tasted better. She then took him to her house, where he could heal. There, she said, "I'm your number one fan."

Annie gave Paul two capsules every six hours, and actually almost killed him with an accidental overdose. Paul even got addicted to the Novril as the story progressed.

After burning it, Annie forced Paul to write his best Misery novel ever, "Misery's Return", just for her. She gave him an old typewriter (which was missing an 'n'), so he could write the book.
