Question 2 of 10
2. Rowena8482 has been assigned the task of filling the science fiction section. She filled it so full of books that I had to cut down the "historical geography of ancient civilizations in fantasy novels" section. Tsk tsk.

Hint

It was Stephen King's second novel, and is centered around Ben Mears, who discovers that residents of a certain city were all becoming vampires. What is this novel? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Somehow I was able to convince George95 to help fill the sports section. His task was a difficult one; find as many novels as he can with a sports theme. Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. I asked Rossian to help with the task of filling our shelves, and she handed me a fairly large stack of books. I looked at the books, and saw something a bit odd. There were "Black Sheep" and "Silence of the Lambs", among others. There was one book that didn't carry the same theme, though; it was called "Blade Runner". Rossian explained to me that she was not able to get a first edition of the book, when the title was completely different. What is the novel? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Looney_Tunes was put in charge of the scripts of plays and musicals. Her favorite that she donated to the library, however, is one by Tennessee Williams. Which of these is by the famous author of "A Streetcar Named Desire"? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Thanks to Daaanieeel, our shelves are stocked with plenty of classics, including some of my favorites. Of course, Daaanieeel could not complete the classics section without a healthy portion of Jack London novels filling a shelf. Daaanieeel made sure his favorite Jack London novel stuck out a little more than the rest of them.

Which of these Jack London novels involves a dog named Buck?
Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. When I gave Reedy the task of filling the "Star Trek" novel section in the libary, I would never have guessed he would report back to me with several hundred novels, novellas, short stories, and the like, all "Star Trek" based.

But which came first; the "Star Trek" books, or the "Star Trek" television show?
Hint

Question 10 of 10

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As I am named after meat (my name is salami_swami), I decided to stock the shelves with the cookbooks section. I was able to find hundreds of cookbooks, but my favorite is by Todd Wilbur. This is the cookbook I use when I want to have some of Red Lobster's Cheddar Bay Biscuits or Outback Steakhouse's Alice Springs Chicken. What series of cookbooks has Todd Wilbur authored?

Answer: Top Secret Restaurant Recipes

"Top Secret Restaurant Recipes" was first published in 1997. Todd Wilbur, the author of the cookbook, went to dozens of restaurants, and ordered some of the more popular dishes there. With his expert taste buds and his "sciency" brain, he was able to take apart popular dishes and reconstruct them. Over time, he would alter his own recipe until his dish tasted almost like an exact replica of the dish on which he based his.

He has created hundreds of "mock" recipes, including a Big Mac from McDonalds and Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp from the Cheesecake Factory.

He has also published several other "Top Secret Restaurant Recipes" cookbooks.
2. Rowena8482 has been assigned the task of filling the science fiction section. She filled it so full of books that I had to cut down the "historical geography of ancient civilizations in fantasy novels" section. Tsk tsk. Her favorite author, as you can tell by her immense collection of him, is a man who wrote "Starship Troopers". Who is her favorite author?

Answer: Robert A. Heinlein

Robert A. Heinlein wrote "Starship Troopers" in 1959. It was originally published in "The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction" as "Starship Soldier" earlier the same year.
3. To give the library a little variety, I employed Kyleisalive to fill the horror section. He was able to donate quite a few, but it seemed most of them were Stephen King novels. He gave me two copies of one of the novels, telling me to keep one for myself to read, because it was his favorite. It was Stephen King's second novel, and is centered around Ben Mears, who discovers that residents of a certain city were all becoming vampires. What is this novel?

Answer: 'Salem's Lot

"Jerusalem's Lot", or "'Salem's Lot" for short, was released in 1975. It was Stephen King's second novel, after "Carrie". The novel features a man named Ben Mears, who visits a town he grew up in. Upon his arrival, he discovers that all the residents are becoming vampires.

Stephen King has written dozens of novels, mostly horror, including "It", "Firestarter" and "The Shining". "Dr. Sleep" is another novel of Stephen King, and it is the sequel to "The Shining".
4. Somehow I was able to convince George95 to help fill the sports section. His task was a difficult one; find as many novels as he can with a sports theme. He was able to bring back quite a few books, all centered around sports. His favorite, George says, was a book he read when he was a young teenager. The book is by Sue Corbett. What is it called?

Answer: Free Baseball

"Free Baseball" was published by Sue Corbett in 2006. The novel was inspired by a real-life experience of Sue Corbett. During a baseball game, she lost her daughter in the crowd. However, she was able to locate her because all her children were wearing shirts with the team's name on them. This provided the inspiration for the novel.
5. It turns out that Rowena had help filling the science-fiction section. She had the aid of Eburge, who gave her a few books of his own. One of the series he gave her was the "Mortal Engines" series by Philip Reeve. By what other name do the novels go by?

Answer: Hungry City Chronicles

Philip Reeve wrote the first novel of the "Hungry City Chronicles" (also called the "Mortal Engines Quartet") in 2001. It was called, fittingly, "Mortal Engines". "Predator's Gold" (2003) came next, followed by "Infernal Devices" (2005) and finished with "A Darkling Plan" in 2006.

Suzanne Collins wrote the "Hunger Games" trilogy, the "Dragonriders of Pern" series was written by Anne McCaffrey, and the "Pit Dragon" series was written by Jane Yolen.

Answer: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" is a novel first published in 1968, and was written by Philip K. Dick. In 1982, after huge success from the film adaptation "Blade Runner", the novel began being marked with the title "Blade Runner" instead of its original sheepish title.

Philip K. Dick wrote many stories where film adaptations were made. He wrote "We Can Remember it For You Wholesale", the basis for "Total Recall"; "The Minority Report", which was used for "Minority Report"; "Paycheck" was used for "Paycheck", and "Adjustment Team" was used in the creation of the film "The Adjustment Bureau".
7. Looney_Tunes was put in charge of the scripts of plays and musicals. Her favorite that she donated to the library, however, is one by Tennessee Williams. Which of these is by the famous author of "A Streetcar Named Desire"?

Answer: The Glass Menagerie

"The Glass Menagerie" was a play written by Tennessee Williams, author of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "A Streetcar Named Desire". "The Glass Menagerie" was first performed in Chicago in 1944.

"Death of a Salesman" is a play written by Arthur Miller, "Pygmalion" was written by George Bernard Shaw (and the musical "My Fair Lady" was adapted from "Pygmalion") and "A Diary of a Young Girl", a collection of writings of Anne Frank during WWII, was used in the play "The Diary of Anne Frank".

Answer: The Call of the Wild

"The Call of the Wild" was first published by Jack London in 1903. It was one of his first novels, and arguably one of his greatest. Its companion novel was "White Fang", published in 1906. Jack London had a love of dogs; he was a dog owner throughout his lifetime, and this obviously inspired many of his greatest works.
9. When I gave Reedy the task of filling the "Star Trek" novel section in the libary, I would never have guessed he would report back to me with several hundred novels, novellas, short stories, and the like, all "Star Trek" based. But which came first; the "Star Trek" books, or the "Star Trek" television show?

Answer: Show

The "Star Trek" universe is enormous, and began with Gene Roddenberry's 1966 television series, "Star Trek: The Original Series". In 2006, 40 years after the first episode of the first series, the "Star Trek" world had boomed. 10 films based on the show had been released in that 40 year span, 6 different television series had aired, and hundreds and hundreds of novels were published. Of course, it did not end at 40 years.

The "Star Trek" universe continued to expand even after 2006.
10. Reeshy supplied the library with a crime section. One of his favorites he gave to the library is one written by Dashiell Hammett, who is well known for writing one of the most popular crime novels of the 20th century. In fact, in 1990, it was ranked number 10 on Crime Writers' Association's Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time, and it ranked 2nd on the Mystery Writers of America's list in 1995. What is Dashiell Hammett's famous novel?

Answer: The Maltese Falcon

"The Maltese Falcon" was published in 1930 by Dashiell Hammett, and became a film in 1941. "Red Dragon" was a book by Thomas Harris. It was adapted as a film in 1986, under the name "Manhunter". The sequel to this novel, "The Silence of the Lambs", as well as its movie adaptation, were much more successful than "Red Dragon or "Manhunter". "And Then There Were None" was written by Agatha Christie in 1939, and "Presumed Innocent" was written by Scott Turow in 1987.
