He also said the horses wouldn't survive the winter. They wouldn't have the money to feed them. Tex freaked out and ended up fighting with Mason, getting a huge cut on his head that left a giant scar.

Answer: basketball

He went to great lengths to ensure he'd last the whole basketball season. Through a hitch hiker and an ulcer, he was determined to finish the season and get a scholarship for school.

Another wild tie-in from "That Was Then, This Is Now". In both books the two characters are told that their real father was a rodeo rider with crazy golden eyes like a cat. Both characters were also raised by different men than their real father. Tex's dad admits to him that he didn't love Tex as much as Mason because of this fact.

He calls the Collins house to ask for his home number because he never had to call it and didn't remember it. Jamie answers and freaks out when he tells her he'd been shot. Cole has to take the phone away from her and ask where Tex is at so he can call the ambulance over and save him. Lem has someone call for an ambulance also shortly afterwards.
