Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the first name of Miss Pebmarsh?

Answer: Millicent

Millicent Pebmarsh was a blind woman who lived in the house where the dead man was found. She was also a traitor to the country, as she was giving secret information to Britain's enemies.
2. Why was Edna Brent killed?

Answer: She returned to work after breaking her shoe

She broke the heel on one of her shoes, so she returned to her desk. She knew that there wasn't any telephone call requesting Sheila Webb, and so she had to be killed by Miss Martindale.
3. Which clock was stolen?

Answer: The Rosemary clock

When Sheila arrived at the house where the dead man was found, she was shocked to find that her clock, the Rosemary clock, was on the scene. She took it from the scene, as she knew it would incriminate her. It had stolen by Miss Martindale when Sheila was going to get it repaired, and placed there to make Sheila look guilty.
4. What was the name of the inspector involved in the case?

Answer: Inspector Hardcastle

Kelsey was in "Cat Among The Pigeons", Davis was in "The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd", and Japp was Poirot's friend who appeared in numerous books. Hardcastle became convinced that Sheila was the killer.
5. Who didn't speak at the inquest?

Answer: Mrs McNaughton

Mrs McNaughton was one of the neighbours who lived close to the residence where Dugesclin was killed. The others all spoke at the inquest as they had first hand accounts of the tragedy.
6. Where was Edna Brent killed?

Answer: In a telephone box

She was strangled by Miss Martindale in the telephone box. It must have been a miracle that no one saw Martindale kill her.
7. What was the fake name of the dead man?

Answer: Harry Castleton

Kettering was in "The Mystery Of The Blue Train", Gale in "Death In The Clouds" and Pennington in "Death On The Nile". The idea of the false name came from one of the books that Miss Martindale typed up.
8. Who is the third victim?

Answer: Merlina Rival

Mrs. Rival was stabbed to death. Mrs Bland knew her, so she could help the Blands in their scheme.
9. Which of these people wasn't involved in the murder?

Answer: Miss Waterhouse

Miss Waterhouse was completely innocent. Miss Martindale and Mrs Bland were sisters, and Mr Bland was Mrs Bland's husband. Martindale and Mr Bland killed the man because he knew that the inheritance Mrs Bland had received went to the wrong Mrs Bland.
10. What is the name of the dead man?

Answer: Quentin Dugesclin

Blunt was in "One Two, Buckle My Shoe", Norton was in "Curtain" and Darrell was in "The Big Four". Dugesclin was from Canada, so the police couldn't identify him easily. Bland stole his passport so the police wouldn't know he was foreign.
