Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Harry Dresden is the only wizard in Chicago who advertises in the phone book. What service does he offer?

Answer: Private Investigator

Harry Dresden uses his magic to find lost people and things. His private investigation business is not very successful. He makes most of his money as a consultant on the paranormal to the local police force. This often brings him into conflict with not only his fellow wizards but the various paranormal groups in and around Chicago.
2. "Bob" resides in a human skull owned by Harry Dresden. What is he?

Answer: Air elemental

"Bob" is an air element who makes his home in a skull in Harry Dresden's basement. His exact age is unknown but it is certainly several hundred years. He has been passed from magician to magician since at least medieval times. He has a massive magical knowledge which is often very helpful to Harry. His real name is unknown.
3. Who is the Sergeant in the Special Investigations Division of the Chicago police who usually calls Harry in as a consultant?

Answer: Karen Murphy

Karen Murphy (whose name is given as Karrin in some editions of the book) frequently puts her job in danger for Harry. She used to be a Lieutenant but was demoted because of her association with him. Special Investigations Division deals with paranormal crime and it is regarded as something of a punishment to be transferred there.

Susan Rodriquez is an ex girlfriend of Harry's.
Martha Liberty is a member of the Wizard Senior Council.
Charity Carpenter is married to Harry's best friend.
4. Who is Harry's half brother who is also a vampire of the White Court?

Answer: Thomas Raith

Thomas Raith and Harry share a mother. His father is Lord Raith and he is his only living son, as Lord Raith usually kills his sons in case they try to challenge him. He feeds on life forces rather than blood.

Michael Carpenter is Harry's friend and also a Knight of The Cross.
Jared Kincaid is part human part demon and Guardian of The Archive.
Johnny Marcone is a Chicago gang boss.
5. Why can't Harry Dresden use anything electrical?

Answer: Something about his magic fries anything electrical

Harry can't even be in the same room as anything powered by electricity without it starting to malfunction. Anything he tries to use instantly shorts out and is rendered useless. He lights his home with candles and is very very careful if he visits a hospital or similar building.
6. Why does Harry take Michael Carpenter's daughter under his wing?

Answer: To prevent her being executed

Molly Carpenter is the teenage daughter of Michael and Charity Carpenter. She has magical talents which her parents are unaware of. Unfortunately she breaks one of the seven laws of magic, and this carries a death penalty. Harry pleads her case in front of the Wizard Council, and they agree to place her on probation in Harry's care.

The catch is that if she breaks one of the laws again then not only will she be executed, but Harry will be executed with her.
7. Harry has two animal companions, a dog and a cat. The cat is called Mister. What is the name of the dog?

Answer: Mouse

Mister is a large grey tomcat, similar in appearance to a Main Coon. Sometimes Bob takes over his mind and uses him to move around town and observe things for himself. He weighs around thirty pounds and Harry rescued him from a trash can when he was three months old.

Moose came to Harry when Harry was hired to find a stolen litter of Buddhist temple puppies. He thought he had returned all the puppies, but one had hidden in his vehicle and he didn't find it until it was too late to return it with the others. Moose is a Foo dog, being the descendant of a divine spirit and a mortal dog.
8. The Archive is a pre-teenage girl who possess all the accumulated knowledge and wisdom of mankind. What nickname does Harry give her?

Answer: Ivy

The Archive comes from an unbroken mother to daughter family line that goes back at least five thousand years. "Ivy" would not normally have come into the position until she was around thirty, but her grandmother died unexpectedly and her mother was unable to cope with the burden of knowledge.

Other than her nickname she has no other name except Archive. She does however have magical powers greater than the most powerful magicians.
9. William (Billy) Borden is leader of the Alphas. What are they?

Answer: Werewolves

The Alphas are a group of friends who use magic to transform into wolves. In wolf form they patrol their territory keeping out vampires and other supernatural creatures. They often assist Harry in his paranormal investigations at great risk to themselves.
10. How many Knights of the Cross are there?

Answer: Three

There should be three Knights of the Cross. They each have a sword that bears a piece of nail from the Crucifixion. These are called Love, Faith and Hope. Michael Carpenter bears Love, but after being seriously injured he passes the sword to Harry for safekeeping, with instructions to find the new bearer as his time as a Knight of the Cross is at an end.

The other two Knights are Shiro, who is killed, and Sanya who is the only Knight still active until Harry finds the new sword bearer.
