Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Max and her sidekicks make an unauthorised jump to rescue two long-lost St. Mary's people from Boudicca's advancing army, which city do they jump to?

Answer: Colchester

Historians Grey and Blashford were kidnapped by Clive Ronan and
abandoned in Colchester just as Boudicca's advancing army arrived
to sack the city. Max and her team arrived just in time to save them, in their timeline, even though they have been lost to St. Mary's for ten years.
2. In the short story "When A Child is Born", what year do the crew from St. Mary's jump back to?

Answer: 1066

Max and her team jump back to 1066 to view the Christmas Day coronation of William the Conqueror, but get caught up in a seemingly random situation when a lowly peasant woman is giving birth unaided in a freezing hut. Overcome with compassion, the St. Mary's crew stay and assist her and her older child, and it is only later that Max discovers the historical importance of the daughter in question.
3. "Ships and _______ and Wedding Rings" - what completes the title of Jodi Taylor's short story about the exploits of St. Mary's historians?

Answer: Stings

Max must jump back to ancient Egypt and retrieve a very anachronistic gun before Dr. Bairstow (and History) realise it has been left behind...
4. In "When did you last see your Father?" Which of these things do St. Mary's NOT frame Max's father for?

Answer: Gun running

Max hates and fears her father, and when he arrives at St. Mary's with the intention of getting custody of Matthew the team decide to deal with him once and for all. They whip up a cunning plan which for once works perfectly, ensuring Dr. Maxwell Snr will never trouble them again.
5. Who does Markham offer some comforting words of wisdom to as they sit beside a fire in the rain sometime during the ninth century?

Answer: King Alfred the Great

Markham is present at the famous 'burning of the cakes' by Alfred when he is hiding out in the English marshes. He offers the despondent King some comforting words. In this story we find out a little bit more of Markham's back story, though he remains very much an enigma.
6. In Jodi Taylor's short story "The Perfect Storm", the plot centres on a book within the book. Who is the author?

Answer: David Sands

David's book is called "The Time of my Life", and the team have to very carefully prevent it being made into a film.
7. In "The Great St. Mary's Day Out" the team go to the Globe in 1601. Which of Shakespeare's plays do they see?

Answer: Hamlet

They go to see Hamlet, with Shakespeare himself as the Ghost, but in true St. Mary's fashion, disaster (in the form of Markham) strikes. Luckily, Markham is as good at getting out of trouble as he is at getting into it, and "All's well that ends well" (see what I did there?).
8. In the short St. Mary's story "And now for Something Completely Different" where do the team end up ?

Answer: Mars

This is one of the few times the team jump without time travel. They stay in their present and cross space to witness the success of the first manned mission to Mars.
9. Mrs. Mack rules the kitchen at St. Mary's with a ladle of iron. Which battle is she a heroine of?

Answer: Battersea Barricades

"The Battersea Barricades" tells us about Mrs. Mack's time as a freedom fighter on the front lines. She was a true heroine, and remains ready to defend St.Mary's to the death if necessary, against anything History might throw at them.
10. In the short St. Mary's story "Roman Holiday", what does Markham use as his fake bosoms when he dressed as Cleopatra?

Answer: Lemons

In the interests of historical accuracy, Markham and Roberts re-enact the famous 'rolled carpet' entry of Cleopatra into Caesar's presence. This goes about as well as every other such plan concocted by Markham.
