Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Mousetrap" started in what English theatre in 1952 and has been playing there since?

Answer: St. Martin's Theater

"The Mousetrap" is the longest running theatrical performance in history, with over 23,000 performances since 1952.
2. The story takes place in a guest-house called what?

Answer: Monkswell Manor

The sign on the front of the house said Monkwell Manor, due to the carelessness of the maker, but the actual name of the house is Monkswell Manor.
3. Who owns the guest-house?

Answer: Giles and Mollie Ralston

The Ralstons, in their twenties, have been married for just a year in the story. Arrogant, caring, and good-looking Giles only knew the tall and pretty Mollie for six weeks before they were married.
4. Which of the following is not a guest?

Answer: Sargent Trotter

The only reason Sargent Trotter was present at Monkswell Manor was that a notebook had been found with the addresses of Mrs. Lyon and Monkswell Manor. Because Mrs. Lyon had been murdered, the police had supposedly sent Trotter to gather clues and protect the house guests.
5. Within the first two pages of the story, the radio announces that a murder had taken place. Who was murdered?

Answer: Mrs. Lyon

Mrs. Lyon had been found dead at the scene of the crime. She was strangled to death. A note was found on her back saying "This is the first!"
6. What is the killer's theme song?

Answer: "Three Blind Mice"

The killer sang "Three Blind Mice" because he planned to kill three people.
7. Who was the first guest to arrive?

Answer: Christopher Wren

Christopher Wren is a slightly neurotic young man in his twenties. He develops a slight attraction to Mollie throughout the story which Giles does not approve of.
8. Which guest was not expected?

Answer: Mr. Paravicini

Mr. Paravicini is a dark, mysterious, yet happy man whose car had overturned in a snowbank outside of Monkswell Manor.
9. Giles and Mollie had backround information on all of their guests.

Answer: False

This displeased Sargent Trotter when he was questioning the pair.
10. Why couldn't anyone at the guest-house communicate using telephone?

Answer: Because the line was cut

The line was sabotaged partway though the first act by the murderer.
11. Who walked straight over to the fire in a manly fashion as soon as they'd arrived?

Answer: Miss Casewell

Miss Casewell was a very man-like character. She walked, talked and acted like a man even though she was not.
12. Which characters enjoy cooking?

Answer: Mollie and Christopher Wren

Christopher Wren spends most of his time cooking with Mollie which, obviously, displeases Giles.
13. What does Giles hide at the beginning of the story?

Answer: A paper carrier

When Giles gets back from looking for chicken wire, he hides a paper carrier in the cabinet.
14. Which character pretended to strangle Mrs. Boyle?

Answer: Christopher Wren

15. Who is killed at the end of Act I?

Answer: Mrs. Boyle

Mrs. Boyle is strangled by the killer in the pitch dark room. All signs point to Christopher as the murderer, but is he? Take my next quiz, "The Mousetrap" Act II to find out!
