Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Beware the flower, beware the thorn, beware the House that bears the rose. Highgarden sits on ancient ambitions; as does the lord of all that grows.

Answer: Mace Tyrell

Mace Tyrell of House Tyrell is the Lord of Highgarden. After supporting first Renly Baratheon, then Joffrey Baratheon as king, it was apparent that he wished to side with whichever kingdom ended up victorious in the battle for Westeros.

Tyrell is also known to be overly confident of his abilities to lead military forces and plan strategically, however none of his compatriots share the same confidence.
2. A crow, a crow, a boy, pray tell. A crow, a crow, of Winterfell. A crow, a crow, now known by all. A crow, a crow, atop the Wall.

Answer: Jon Snow

Jon Snow was the illegitimate son of Eddard Stark of Winterfell and an unknown woman. His relationship is strong with his family, save for that with Catelyn Stark, who openly showed her distaste for Jon. Snow is the generic surname given to any illegitimate children in Winterfell.

Jon went to the Wall after King Robert's visit to Winterfell. As Eddard Stark was leaving for King's Landing, Catelyn did not want the boy around. A position at the Wall was considered the best option for Jon Snow. After considerable actions to save others' lives, and his befriending of Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, he was elected to the office of Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.
3. The water called to one most fallen, whom answered to a god drowned. The priest who called a kingsmoot folly, from which a fiend was crowned.

Answer: Aeron Greyjoy

Aeron Greyjoy, also known as the Damphair, was a servant to the Drowned God, the god of the Ironmen. He leads a small contingent of men known as the Drowned Men, who obey his every command. He was also "drowned", a religious ceremony in which the subject is forced to inhale seawater and then is "brought back to life" through resuscitation.

After the death of Balon Greyjoy, the leader of the Iron Islands, the Damphair summoned all possible leaders to an ancient custom known as the "kingsmoot". At the kingsmoot, he had hoped to elevate Victarion Greyjoy as the leader of the ironborn. However, Euron Greyjoy, Aeron's hated older brother, won the crown.
4. Once a maiden fair, Sat upon a chair. Her king left her alone, On a throne she did not own.

Answer: Cersei Lannister

Cersei Lannister (formerly Cersei Baratheon) conspired to have King Robert Baratheon killed by a boar during a hunting trip. After she had that accomplished, she set out to secure the crown for herself and House Lannister.

Her children are her most precious possessions, although they are not truly Robert Baratheon's children. Instead they are the offspring of incest with her twin brother Jaime Lannister, therefore giving other kings, such as Stannis Baratheon, claim to the throne.
5. A man of the Twins is no friend of mine. Red Weddings, they hold. On wolf blood, they dine.

Answer: Walder Frey

Walder Frey of House Frey is the Lord of the Crossing at the Twins, a set of two fortifications on the Trident. He is a bannerman of House Tully; however, he is wary when it comes to calling his forces.

Walder Frey was arrogant and cross in his dealings with the Starks and Tullys and only offered his support once several important weddings were promised by Catelyn Stark. Robb Stark voided their agreement by marrying Jeyne Westerling. Catelyn tried to subdue Frey's anger by offering other key marriages, namely her brother, Edmure Tully. The Freys betrayed the Starks during the wedding ceremony and killed Robb and his mother and many of their bannermen.
6. Brother Robb; was now dead. Sister Sansa; untruly wed. Brother Bran; at Winterfell. Brother Jon; she loved so well. Brother Rickon; was so small. And she had lost them all.

Answer: Arya Stark

Arya Stark, Eddard Stark's second daughter, was taken to King's Landing along with Sansa Stark. When Eddard was executed, Arya fled the city. She wandered Westeros taking refuge where she could find it. Her ability to survive the war-torn lands is remarkable, due, in part, to her ability to wield her short sword, "Needle" and the secrecy of her lineage.

She believes the majority of her family dead or lost and is simply trying to find her place in the world.
7. "Let them fly", falcons of Arryn; off towers so tall and stout. But when the likes of singers come, there are few who can fly who are trout.

Answer: Lysa Arryn

Lysa Arryn was sister to Catelyn Stark and was a member of House Tully before marrying Jon Arryn of the Eyrie, who was Robert Baratheon's Hand of the King. After Arryn's death, she sat in the Eyrie with her sickly child, Robert Arryn, staving off any attempts at remarrying.

She had a secret love for Petyr Baelish and once he and Sansa Stark arrived at the Eyrie, she married him. In a fit of jealous rage, she nearly threw Sansa Stark from the Moon Door, but Littlefinger saved the girl and instead threw out Lysa, blaming it on the singer, Marillion.
8. The Maester of all Maesters. King's Landing must be raving. For what good is a wise man when his beard gets a good shaving?

Answer: Grand Maester Pycelle

Grand Maester Pycelle was a member of the King's small council for several years and served under Aerys Targaryen. As he is a maester, he is considered wise in the ways of the Citadel. However, he has often forsaken his vows to his chains as he becomes increasingly involved in the political workings of King's Landing at the advantage of House Lannister.

At the time that Tyrion Lannister was the Hand, the Imp shaved off the man's long white beard. This action seemed to shake what little confidence Pycelle had left.
9. The third of his line, a king without claim, a brother, a stag, a green-armored knight. His guard of colors kept for protection, yet slain by a shadow with nary a fight.

Answer: Renly Baratheon

Renly Baratheon was the younger brother of both Robert and Stannis Baratheon. His claim to the throne was less valid than Stannis', yet that did not stop him from gaining the support of House Tyrell through his marriage to Margaery Tyrell.

He created the Rainbow Guard, a variation of the Kingsguard. They were entrusted with his protection, yet he was killed by a shade summoned by Lady Melisandre, and ordered by Stannis Baratheon.
10. A crow gone bad. A man gone mad. A people so had. A North so sad.

Answer: Mance Rayder

Mance Rayder, "the King Beyond the Wall", was once a man of the Night's Watch. He fled the post and went into the lands north of the Wall. He gathered a large force of wildlings to attack the Wall, but failed in his attempts thanks to Jon Snow. His motivations for attacking were that he could not stop the Others beyond the Wall and wished to find some sort of protection from them.
