1. What culture is Jack?

Answer: Saxon

Jack is a Saxon from a Saxon town. His dad's name is Giles Crookleg and his sister is Lucy. Jack is enlisted to become the Bard's apprentice at the beginning of the book.

2. Who is the magic man that lives in a shack in Jack's town?

Answer: The Bard

The Bard is an old man who lived in a shack and is brought food every day by the boys of the village. He takes Jack on as his apprentice and shows him how to conjure fog, and starts on showing him how to make fire.

3. Who attacks the village?

Answer: All of the rest

Vikings and Northmen are just names for the Scandinavian culture. They live up North in the cold and have many wives. They abduct Jack and Lucy.

4. Who are the strange group of people that try to purchase Jack?

Answer: Picts

The Northmen are about to sell Jack to the strange blue, tattooed Picts but Olaf thinks Jack can be his "skald" so he doesn't sell him or Lucy.

5. What is the boar's name, in the Viking village?

Answer: Golden Bristles

Golden Bristles is a "wild" boar who lives in the Viking village. Rune is a helpful man who goes into the water to get their bearings. Jack befriends Golden Bristles and Golden Bristles in return helps him out.

6. There are two Vikings' lands near Olaf's home, one is Einar the Ear-hoarder, the other is _________ the Mauler.

Answer: Magnus

Olaf attacks Einar the Ear-hoarder's village for disrespecting them. He slaughters the whole village, killing men, women, children and everything.

7. Who is Sven?

Answer: A crewman

Sven the Vengeful is a crewman on Olaf's ship who speaks many languages. He is not huge and is not a Saxon however, he is a Viking.

8. What is another name for trolls?

Answer: Jotuns

The Jotuns are an intelligent, mind-communicating race who live high up in the cold mountains. They look frightening but are actually a nice race.

9. Who gets burned in a funeral pyre and why?

Answer: Olaf, killed by troll-bear

Olaf and Thorgil fought against a troll-bear when they landed in Jotunheim. Thorgil was incapacitated early and unable to help Olaf who still managed to kill the troll-bear. When he died, he was burned with the troll-bear in a pyre for the Vikings to see.

10. What is it of Freya's that she wanted to sacrifice Lucy to?

Answer: Fen

Freya was intent on sacrificing Lucy to Freya's Fen but if Jack went to Jotunheim and completed his task, she would be free. Freya was the one who ended up in Freya's Fen in the end. Thank you for playing.
