After spending a month in the wild forest after his final escape from their tunnels, he is rescued by Rori the dragon and flown to Haen Marn and safety.

Rhodorix and Gerontos arrive in Garanbeltangim just as the situation with the raiding Meradan worsens. The Elves have some captured horses, but no real idea of how to look after them let alone ride them to war. Rhodorix's skill on horseback lets him make a place for himself with the Elven army and he fights at King Ranadar's side until his death in battle.

Hwilli is the only human among the Elven students of dweomer and healing. When King Ranadar orders the evacuation to Rinbaladelan of all except the few remaining fighting men and one healer, she is told she must go too, leaving Rhodorix behind.
She is heartbroken, but takes some comfort from knowing she is carrying his child.

For hundreds of years, the Elven mages of Rinbaladelan have been trying to discover the language of the Blessed Lands, where people were created by the Gods. They mean to use the language to beg the Gods to intervene and stop the Meradan.

Devar is the hatchling Rori has with Arzosah. He is named after Rori's own father, Devaberiel Silverhand the Elven bard. Rori finds he cares more for Devar than he ever did for his human sons so many years before. The hardest thing he has to do is to explain to Devar that he is leaving and will never see him again, when he goes to return to human form.

Forewarned that the Horsekin army is coming, the citizens of Cerr Cawnen pack what they can carry and flee towards the grasslands.
Lord Gerran is desperate for settlers for the Melyn Valley, and is happy to let them be free farmers rather than bondsfolk. They will have their own land to hold again, hundreds of years after they fled the Slavers.
The Horsekin army storm into Cerr Cawnen and think they have taken the town, only for Arzosah and Rori to work the dragon dweomer that will "wake the fire mountain"; the subsequent volcanic eruption utterly destroys Cerr Cawnen along with almost every Horsekin soldier there.

Answer: Faharn

It is only when Faharn is dead that Laz realises just what a loyal and faithful friend he has been over the years. Laz mourns sincerely and thus goes another step along the road to redeeming himself for the evil he did when he was Alastyr.

Answer: Turn Avain into a dragon

Avain is really a dragon soul trapped in her human body. She is desperate to fly with the other dragons and begs to be allowed to go with them. All the energy that has been bound up in Rori's dragon form is used to make a new one for Avain and she finally has her true form and can fly at last. Arzosah "adopts" her, and promises to look after and help her as she learns to be a real dragon at last.

Haen Marn was originally conceived and created by the great dweomerworkers of Garanbeltangim, over a thousand years earlier. It was meant to be a place of healing, open to anyone who needed help, no matter which race they were, and can now finally begin to fulfill its original purpose.
