Answer: The Knight's Tale

During the Prologue, the audience is informed that the play is based upon the earlier work. A previous adaptation by Richard Edwardes already existed prior to 1614, the probable date of "The Two Noble Kinsmen".
2. What are the names of "The Two Noble Kinsmen" in the title of the play?

Answer: Palamon and Arcite

Palamon and Arcite are both nephews of the King of Thebes. They are cousins and best friends.
3. For whom do "The Two Noble Kinsmen" go to war?

Answer: Creon of Thebes

Creon of Thebes was a nasty piece of work who had killed three kings and not allowed them to be buried properly. Their widows persuade Theseus, Duke of Athens to help and he declares war. Palamon and Arcite work for Creon and have no choice in the matter.

Answer: They fall in love with the same woman

Palamon and Arcite see Princess Emilia from their cell.

After Arcite is released, he returns in disguise. Palamon hides in the nearby forest.

Answer: A sword duel, with the loser to be executed

Palamon and Arcite both still love Princess Emilia. The King says that if she cannot decide over the two, she will marry the winner of the duel and the other will be executed.

Answer: False

Arcite wins the duel, but falls from his horse before the wedding. He lives long enough to give the hand of the princess to his best friend, Palamon.

The play was placed on the Stationers' Register on 8 April 1634, as having been written by Shakespeare and published later that year. The register was a similar process to copy-writing a work.
