Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Is Queen Titania in charge of the Midwinter's Eve celebration?

Answer: No

Titania presides over the Midsummer's Eve festivities, while Oberon is in command of the Midwinter's Eve celebration.
2. Borrowers have three hands. Two on the ends of their arms, and another one where?

Answer: On top of their heads

Borrowers also have beady eyes, floppy ears, and furry feet.
3. Oberon's cup is made of faery gold and what jewel?

Answer: Amethyst

This is a clue as to which borrower stole Oberon's cup, because most borrowers don't like faery gold, thinking it's bad luck.
4. What two colors is Titania's gown for Midwinter's Eve?

Answer: Red and gold

Titania, the beautiful (of course) faery Queen, is described as having "hair turned silver by the moon, skin as white as milk, her velvet dress as red as wine."
5. Other than acorn bread, blackberries, and the magic hazelnut, what does Sneezle pack in his traveling pouch before he first goes on the quest with Twig?

Answer: Cake

Honey cakes are Sneezle's favorite food. The sausages, fur coats, and Beezwottle's map of Old Oak Wood are given to the children when they leave the Council of the Sorcerers.
6. Fill in the blank of Aunty Pod's saying: "Flowers out of season, _______ without reason."

Answer: Trouble

Later, when Malagan's goblins capture Sneezle, Twig, and Chick, one of the goblins quotes the saying back at them.
7. When Sneezle is in Malagan's tower, he is locked inside an iron cage. Where is the key to the cage kept?

Answer: Inside a moldy dragon head

At first, Twig doesn't know where to look, but Sneezle tells her that the key is kept inside the dragon head. Chick, however, just climbs through the cage bars, which is when Sneezle and Twig really start to wonder who she is.
8. Who wishes on Sneezle's hazelnut for the flying ship?

Answer: Twig

Twig was only making some suggestions, but since she said them out loud, the wish worked anyway.
9. What does Stin (the doorkeeper at the Royal Council of Sorcerers) mishear Sneezle's name as?

Answer: Weasel bear

Twig introduces her and the others by saying (loudly) into Stin's ear trumpet, "MY NAME IS TWIG. THAT'S SNEEZLE, THERE, AND LITTLE CHICK." Stin, very hard of hearing, announces them by saying, "Fig, Weasel Bear, and Chicken Little are here!"
10. What position does Alderrod have in the Council of Sorcerers?

Answer: First-staff

After Malagan was stripped of the position, it was offered to Tamaryst, who turned it down because she had, "seen what it had done" to Malagan. So Alderrod was named First-staff instead.
11. What does Tamaryst's crystal ball show when it's asked about Chick?

Answer: Snow

The sorcerers and sorceresses think it means that the crystal isn't working correctly, but really it's showing Lady Winter, Chick's mother.
12. Who rescues Twig from almost drowning when the magic shoe/boat capsizes?

Answer: Uncle Wirt

Pedar Rootmuster swims Sneezle to shore, while Uncle Wirt swims Twig to shore.
13. Complete the directions that the Spring Maiden gives Sneezle and Twig after they pass her test: "Turn away from the barking _____, cross running water, and follow your nose."

Answer: Fox

Neither of the children know what it means, but then along comes Reynard, a fox faery. After he tries to lure them into his lair, Sneezle and Twig run away from him, crossing a stream in the process. Then they just follow the smell of flowers to Summer's garden.
14. Who is Lady Summer playing chess with?

Answer: A piskie

Lady Summer says, "Check," right before she and her garden disappear.
15. Why is Jorje in Old Oak Wood?

Answer: He's getting food for his children

Jorje is actually from a small faery court beneath Vixen Tor, but he came to Old Oak Wood because his children didn't have enough food.
16. What is Malagan doing when the Council of Sorcerers summons him?

Answer: Reading

Malagan looks up from his book, snaps it shut, and says, "How dare you interrupt me!"
17. Was Brambleburn offered the position of First-staff of the Council of Sorcerers?

Answer: No

As I said before, the position was offered to Tamaryst, but after she turned it down it was given to Alderrod.
18. What does Sneezle want as a reward for finding Oberon's cup?

Answer: A plate of honey cakes

Titania laughs, then gives him a golden plate full of honey cakes. It's a magic platter that never empties.
19. Straight after Sneezle and Twig get their rewards, where does Twig go?

Answer: The Eastern Marsh

Twig first goes to the Eastern Marsh to tell her Aunty Pod about how she is going to go to the library to study magic. After that, she sets off for the Royal Library itself, to begin her studies.
20. When Sneezle went home, he saw that Lady Winter had left him a message written in the snow. What did it say?

Answer: Thank you

Underneath, Spring (Chick) had drawn a heart.
