David's friend's name was Brian Ross, not Russell. Brian was hit by a drunk driver while going to school and was in a coma. After David saw Brian at the hospital, David prayed to God to make Brian better, and shortly after that, Brian woke up. Since then, David was very devout to God, and God helped him get out of Desperation alive.

Peter and Mary were driving his sister Deirdre's Acura. When the cop Entragian pulled them over, he found Deirdre's bag of marijuana in the trunk and used this as an excuse to take them to Desperation's jail. Entragian later planted this same bag of pot on Johnny. Entragian shot and killed Peter early in the story, but Mary survived the whole thing.

The others managed to kill the cougar, and before Billingsley died he told them what he had just realized about Audrey - that she was one of Tak's beings.

Tak needed Mary's body for a host as Ellen's body, which it took after using Entragian's, was failing. Therefore none of the creatures could harm or kill her. These creatures included spiders, scorpions, rats, and snakes.

For example, Ripton had prostate cancer, Josephson a leaky heart valve, Entragian super fair skin, and Ellen a yeast infection. Tak wanted to use Mary to replace Ellen's decaying body, but she escaped, forcing Tak to project itself into a golden eagle at the last minute.
