In "Tale of a Body Thief," Lestat and David try to knock the thief form his hold on Lestat's body. After aquiring his original form he flees to his coffin. Later the thief shows up in David's body and asks Lestat to change him (into a vampire). Lestat agrees and while he is draining David's body of blood he becomes aware that it is not David actually in his body. So Lestat sends him into a wall, rendering him paralyzed in the brain. So later on Lestat gets bored and decides to turn David anyway, in the new body he has acquired no less.
