Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'The ultimate hard drive.'

Answer: Johnny Mnemonic

Keanu Reeves starred as a courier in this horrible sci-fi movie. I really don't have the words to describe how bad this movie is, and I'm a forgiving fan of Reeves'.
2. 'Friends are the people who let you be yourself... and never let you forget it.'

Answer: Waiting to Exhale

This was a feel-good film about four black women's relationships with men. Stars included Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and Lela Rochon.
3. 'A man in search. A woman in need. A story of fate.'

Answer: A Walk in the Clouds

Another of Keanu Reeves' 'Speed' follow-ups, this film was romantic trash set in a beautiful southern California vineyard and bolstered by the supporting performances of Anthony Quinn and Giancarlo Giannini.
4. 'An adventure for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind.'

Answer: Jumanji

Robin Williams starred with Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt in this adventure movie about a board game that comes to life. The movie was based on the book written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg. His books are beautiful, and I recommend 'The Polar Express'.
5. 'For truth. For justice. For five bucks a day.'

Answer: Jury Duty

This was a horrible comedy starring Pauly Shore and Tia Carrere. How do these people have careers?
6. 'Trust nothing except your fear.'

Answer: Lord of Illusions

Clive Barker brought us this horror flick, starring Scott Bakula and Famke Janssen.
7. 'The true story of an American hero.'

Answer: Balto

This was an animated film voiced by Kevin Bacon (in the title role), Bob Hoskins, Bridget Fonda, and many others. The film is based on the true story that inspired the Iditarod dog race. In 1925, the children of Nome, Alaska were exposed to diphtheria, and there was a relay dog sled race to get the serum to the kids.

The lead dog of the team who carried the serum 260 miles (most of the teams did around 30 miles) in unbearable conditions was named Togo. Balto was the lead dog on the last leg of the trip, and was memorialized in more ways than just this movie, despite his having done less work than Togo.

After their deaths, both of the dogs were put on display in museums. Yum.
8. 'Get on or get out of the way.'

Answer: Money Train

Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, and Jennifer Lopez star in this action film about two guys who, out of necessity, decide to rob the NYC subway train that transports tons of cash.
9. 'It's not about the direction you take. It's about the direction you give.'

Answer: Mr. Holland's Opus

Richard Dreyfus stars in this drama as a composer who becomes a high school music teacher.
10. 'Beyond the horizon lies the secret to a new beginning.'

Answer: Waterworld

Ah, yes, Kevin Costner's hugely expensive and hugely unpopular flop of a movie. Bravo that!
11. 'There's beauty in the patterns of life.'

Answer: How to Make an American Quilt

Winona Ryder stars opposite such heavies as Anne Bancroft and Ellen Burstyn in this feel-good chick flick wherein older women impart advice on Ryder's character concerning love and lust.
12. 'A summer when four friends made a promise to return anytime they needed each other. Twenty years later, that time has come.'

Answer: Now and Then

This was basically a mediocre chick flick, where four grown women get together to reminisce about their childhood together.
13. 'Envy, greed, jealousy and love.'

Answer: Othello

Laurence Fishburne plays Othello to Kenneth Branagh's Iago in this adaptation of Shakespeare's play.
14. 'Pure energy has a name.'

Answer: Powder

Sean Patrick Flanery plays the title character, an albino with special powers. Lance Henrikson and Jeff Goldblum also lend their performances to the film.
15. 'Think you're quick enough?'

Answer: The Quick and the Dead

Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, and Leonardo DiCaprio star in this movie about gunslingers in the old west. It was directed by Sam Raimi ('Spiderman').
