Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'In a world where nothing is what it seems you've got to look beyond...'

Answer: The Usual Suspects

This awesome film stars Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri, Stephen Baldwin, Kevin Pollak, and Benicio Del Toro (with his own brand of indecipherable dialect).
2. 'The future is history.'

Answer: 12 Monkeys

This remarkable Terry Gilliam film stars Bruce Willis as the time traveler, Madeleine Stowe as the psychiatrist he kidnaps and Brad Pitt as a more-or-less psychotic environmental activist.
3. 'A Los Angeles crime saga.'

Answer: Heat

This Michael Mann film starred Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, and provided their first shared screen time. Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Ashley Judd, and Tom Sizemore were also featured in the film. It looked at two men on either side of the law, both obsessed with their professions.
4. 'The mob is tough...but it's nothing like show business.'

Answer: Get Shorty

This comedy was based on an Elmore Leonard novel and stars John Travolta, Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito, and Rene Russo. Travolta plays a mobster who comes to LA to collect a debt, and ends up getting into show business himself.
5. 'Kate's stuck in a place where anything can happen with a guy who'll make sure that it does.'

Answer: French Kiss

Meg Ryan plays Kate, who travels to France to find her less-than-devoted fiance, but gets caught up in the schemes of Luc (Kevin Kline). Kate and Luc eventually realize that they're perfect for each other and everything is just as wonderful as can be expected of a Meg Ryan romantic comedy.
6. 'On a good day he's a great cop. On a bad day he's the best there is.'

Answer: Die Hard: With a Vengeance

Bruce Willis played John McClane in this third installment of the 'Die Hard' series. John McTiernan returned from the original to direct. Jeremy Irons plays the villain, Simon, perfectly, and Samuel L. Jackson is impeccable as Willis' ethnic sidekick. Willis and Jackson paired up again later in 'Unbreakable' (which was neither particularly good nor intriguing).
7. 'Why can't the most powerful man in the world have the one thing he wants most?'

Answer: The American President

This movie stars Michael Douglas as the president and Annette Bening as a political lobbyist who becomes his girlfriend. Richard Dreyfus, as the vicious senator vying for presidential election, stirs things up with allegations about their relationship and its bearing on the president's ability to do his job.
8. 'Let he who is without sin try to survive.'

Answer: Se7en

David Fincher directed this awesome movie. Brad Pitt plays the rookie to Morgan Freeman's retiring detective. Kevin Spacey appears as the killer who meticulously plans his crimes against people who commit one of the seven deadly sins.
9. 'Evil comes when you call his name.'

Answer: Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh

This sequel is set in New Orleans. I actually saw this one before the original, and quite liked it, for a horror movie (the original was truly fantastic). Tony Todd reprised his title role from the original.
10. 'Open 'til midnight.'

Answer: Empire Records

'Empire Records' is a much-loved film among people of my generation. It's one of those really guilty pleasures where all the discontinuities and ridiculous situations just make you love it all the more! It basically shows a very strange day (Rex Manning day, in fact) at an independent music store. Anthony LaPaglia plays the fatherly boss. Employees include Rory Cochrane, Liv Tyler, Robin Tunney, Renee Zellweger, Ethan Embry, and Johnny Whitworth. Maxwell Caulfield (the male lead in 'Grease 2') shows up as the illustrious Rex Manning.
