Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Minghella wrote and directed a movie with Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche and Kristin Scott Thomas. What was the name of this twelve time Academy Award nominated picture?

Answer: The English Patient

Like "Cold Mountain", another Minghella film, this 1996 picture was a love epic set during the war. This time, it was the Second World War and the love story was between a pilot and an engaged woman, an affair that would leave one seriously burned. Willem Dafoe and Colin Firth also had parts in this movie.
2. Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton and Harvey Keitel all starred in 2002's "Red Dragon". The Brett Ratner film was a "prequel" of "The Silence of the Lambs". What was the name of the famous doctor who liked to eat human flesh?

Answer: Hannibal

Hannibal can be counted in the scariest movie villains in cinema's history. He was featured in "Red Dragon" and also in "Hannibal", "Silence of the Lambs" and "Hannibal Rising". Lecter has been played by Anthony Hopkins and also by French man Gaspard Ulliel.
3. Edward Norton made 90s history by playing in "Fight Club" one of the most brilliant thrillers of this decade. Edward Norton's character, The Narrator, founded a club with the mysterious and slightly deranged (let's face it) Tyler Durden. Who directed the story?

Answer: David Fincher

Although Fincher also directed movies like "Seven" and "Zodiac", "Fight Club" remains one of his most famous. The 27th greatest line (out of 100) on the Premiere list is "The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club". Helena Bonham Carter was the love interest for both Norton and Brad Pitt's characters.
4. Brad Pitt, along with Matt Damon, had a quick cameo in his friend George Clooney's first attempt at directing. Can you remember the name of that movie?

Answer: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

The film was a Kaufman adaptation of Chuck Barrie's memoir in which he declared he was hired as a hitman by the C.I.A. With an all-star cast (Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore, Clooney himself and Julia Roberts), "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" also featured bits and pieces of interviews by people who actually knew Chuck Barrie.
5. George Clooney and this director have worked together on amazing films such as "Out of Sight", "Solaris" and the great " Ocean's 11". Who is it?

Answer: Steven Soderbergh

They even created "Section Eight Production" together. They also worked together in "The Good German" and all "Ocean's" sequels. They have both been nominated for Academy Awards for their work.
6. One of Don Cheadle's most memorable characters was in a Paul Thomas Anderson movie - a movie about 1970's porn industry and young Dirk Diggler's enormous talent. What was this 1997 picture called?

Answer: Boogie Nights

Cheadle played Buck Swope, a porn star in the critically acclaimed "Boogie Nights". The majority of the cast (I counted seven actors) would go on to appear in Thomas' "Magnolia".
7. Philip Seymour Hoffman played the unforgettable Lester Bangs in "Almost Famous" from Cameron Crowe. The movie was about a teen learning the ups and downs of life when he went on tour. Do you remember what Russell loved about music?

Answer: Everything

When asked by William Miller what he loved about music, Russell responded "To begin with.... everything." and that's how "Almost Famous" ended. This film won the Academy award for best screenplay and quite frankly deserved it. Both Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand were nominated for their performances.
8. In 2004's "Stage Beauty", Billy Crudup played an actor who specialized in female roles, and his struggle when it was announced that women may now act. Crudup's character had trouble playing Desdemona throughout the movie. Which Shakespeare play was Desdemona from?

Answer: Othello

Crudup and Claire Danes' characters finally found a way to make Desdemona die in Shakespeare's tale of jealousy. The movie was written by Jeffrey Hatcher who also wrote the play on which it was based. It was directed by Richard Eyre.
9. Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst, Trini Alvarado and Winona Ryder played four sisters in a 1994 Gillian Armstrong film. What was the name of this movie?

Answer: Little Women

It was about the March sisters and their professional and personal lives after the American Civil War. The film also starred Susan Sarandon, Gabriel Byrne and a young Christian Bale.
10. Christian Bale starred in "Batman Begins", in the title role, and in "The Prestige", playing A Borden, Hugh Jackman's character's enemy. Both films were directed by the same man. Who?

Answer: Christopher Nolan

Nolan co-wrote the screenplay for "The Prestige"(brilliant film!) which also starred Michael Caine as Cutter. Caine also was Alfred, Batman's loyal butler in "Batman Begins". Nolan, despite the huge success of both these movies, remains more known for his haunting films "Memento" and "Insomnia".
