Its original title was "Lisa, Lisa" then, when Harry Novak bought the film, he changed it to "AXE" for a nationwide release. After that it was released on home video as "California Axe Massacre" and "The Virgin Slaughter".

Leslie Lee portrayed the innocent Lisa. This was her first and only acting job. After "AXE" she retired and chose to live a private life with her new husband.

In the opening scene, the three criminals break into an apartment and wait for Aubrey. Once he arrived, they addressed him as Aubrey several times before they beat and killed him. The reason for his murder was never explained. One of the criminals suggested that Aubrey had a whiny mouth, but that was the only clue we were given to his murder.

After his death, the three criminals left his body on the floor. The reason for his death will forever be a mystery.

Frederick R. Friedel was the writer and director of the movie "AXE". He also played Billy, the quiet member of the three criminals. Billy also tried to defend Lisa and protect her against Lomax and Steel. After "AXE" was released, Frederick R Friedel filmed another movie using most of the same crew members from "AXE". That film was "Kidnapped Coed" and released a year later.

At the beginning of the film, Lisa was shown in her farm house selecting a chicken for slaughter. Once she had selected one, she cradled it in her arms and then chopped its head off. She then carried the dead chicken into the house to prepare for lunch.

Lomax was the trigger-happy criminal who made comments about how good-looking Lisa was. During the first night, he entered her room and attempted to rape her. He also met the grisliest death in the film.

Douglass Powers played Lisa's paralyzed grandfather who was confined to a wheelchair. Whenever Lisa defended herself against the three criminals, her grandfather was seen trying to speak but could only move his lips.

Inside the grocery store, Steel bit into an apple and complained it wasn't fresh. After the woman in the store said they were just delivered yesterday, he threw several of them at her, after screaming "Then YOU eat them!"

When Lomax attempted to rape her, she reached into the drawer and pulled out a straight razor and began sawing on the back of his neck. She attempted to use the same straight razor on Billy in the woods, but her attempt was unsuccessful.

Steel fought with Lisa in front of her grandfather before she was able to reach the axe and defend herself. Later, Billy discovered blood dripping from the chimney and Steel's body fell down in plain sight.
