Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the commentary, it was noted that he passed gas in the scene where the four hobbits ran from Farmer Maggot's field and fell.

Answer: Frodo Baggins

Played by Elijah Wood. He remarked that it was "pressure gas." It wouldn't have happened if Dominic Monaghan had not have landed on him.
2. He stepped on a piece of glass, hurting his foot and delaying shooting of a scene in "The Fellowship of the Ring."

Answer: Samwise Gamgee

Played by Sean Astin. Dominic Monaghan had also stepped on something during a rehearsal. It was a splinter, during the Buckleberry Ferry scene, and not nearly as serious as Sean Astin's injury in the scene where he runs to Frodo's boat in the water.
3. He was 30 years old when "The Lord of the Rings" started shooting and is the oldest of the four actors playing the hobbits in the Fellowship.

Answer: Peregrin Took

Pippin is of course played by Billy Boyd.
4. Who was acquired for his or her role in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy at literally, the last minute?

Answer: Aragorn, son of Arathorn

Played by Viggo Mortensen. He was asked to do the movie one day before he was required to be in New Zealand. (Where the film was shot.)
5. The member of the cast of "The Lord of the Rings" that had based his character on J.R.R. Tolkien (the man, not his written character descriptions). This included the way he talked, his posture, etc.

Answer: Gandalf the Grey

Played by Ian McKellen. Director Peter Jackson had shown the actor some tapes of readings that Tolkien had done, and he apparently had received some inspiration from that.
6. He was most afraid of taking helicopters to the filming locations, particularly the mountain scenes in "The Fellowship of the Ring".

Answer: Boromir, son of Denethor

Played by Sean Bean. Although Sean Astin also felt uneasy in them, it was Bean who only went once and afterward went by other means of transportation (including ski lifts and mountain climbing) to get there.
7. She said she loved playing in "The Lord of the Rings" because she thought her character brought a "real touch of femininity to Middle-Earth."

Answer: Arwen Evenstar

Played by Liv Tyler. I'll admit it, I only gave "none of the above" as one of the answers because there are only 3 main females in the trilogy.
8. He was the only member of the Fellowship to have his boat sunk twice, while shooting and rehearsing the boat scenes in "The Fellowship of the Ring".

Answer: Legolas Greenleaf

Played by Orlando Bloom. Once with John Rhys-Davies and once with his scale double.
9. The prosthetics worn for his role had harsh effects on the skin around his eyes; it peeled off and turned pink!

Answer: Gimli, son of Gloin

Played by John Rhys-Davies. John had a hard time with the makeup and developed an allergy to some of it.
10. He is the mastermind behind such classic games as 'Tig' and 'Cup'. (These were games being played by some of the cast in between scenes while shooting "The Fellowship of the Ring".)

Answer: Meriadoc Brandybuck

Played by Dominic Monaghan. The hobbit actors talked about playing a game called 'Cup' on set with a paper cup, hitting it, trying to keep it in the air. 'Tig' was a made up game that he, Billy and Sean Astin tricked Elijah Wood into playing (and losing). All of this was mentioned on the cast commentary on the DVD.
