Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard

Answer: Cat

The 1982 movie, "Cat People" was actually a remake of a 1942 film of the same name, that starred Simone Simon and Kent Smith. Although the original is often praised as one of the finest horror movies ever made, the later version, while still a good movie, doesn't have the same feeling of apprehension for me.
The 1982 version however does have one of David Bowie's finest '80s tracks as its theme song in "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" (1982).
2. Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd, Charles Fleischer

Answer: Rabbit

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988) is one of my all time favourite movies and thoroughly deserving of its three Oscars. This masterpiece from 1988 was the first time that Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny had appeared on the big screen together, and with a host of co stars including Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, Betty Boop, Woody Woodpecker and Dumbo. It was a huge box office success.
3. Harvey Keitel, Chris Penn, Tim Roth

Answer: Dogs

"Reservoir Dogs" (1992) was the first full length movie from director Quentin Tarantino, a full two years before the movie that cemented his reputation, "Pulp Fiction" (1994).
Although the movie caused controversy due to its graphic violence and almost non stop profanities, it is often regarded as the finest independent movie ever made, and has inspired a Bollywood film entitled "Kaante" (2002) based on it as well as a video game, which was banned in Australia due to the level of violence depicted.
4. Paul Hogan, Linda Kozlowski, John Meillon

Answer: Crocodile

"That's not a knife. THAT's a knife," must surely be one of the best remembered and most quoted lines from a movie ever. It is testament to the wonderful script and the on screen chemistry between Hogan and Kozlowki that "Crocodile Dundee" (1986) is still much loved today and on its release in 1986, it grossed almost $175 million at the American box office. Not bad for a movie that cost under $10 million to make.
The on screen romance between Hogan and Kozlowski became a real life romance, and in 1990, he divorced his wife and the pair married, remaining together until 2014.
5. Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, Patrick McGoohan

Answer: Zebra

Based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Alistair MacLean, "Ice Station Zebra" (1968) is one of the few movies without a single female in the cast, which star Rock Hudson blamed on MacLean's style of writing.
Although the movie wasn't well received by critics or the general public, it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Special Effects, losing out to Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968).
6. Sigourney Weaver, Bryan Brown, Iain Cuthbertson

Answer: Gorillas

"Gorillas in the Mist" (1988) recounts the true story of Dian Fossey, the American naturalist who worked tirelessly in Rwanda studying the mountain gorillas from 1966 until her murder in 1985.
The film was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Actress for Weaver, but she lost out to Jodie Foster for her portrayal of Sarah Tobias in "The Accused" (1988).
7. Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, Madeleine Stowe

Answer: Monkeys

Former "Monty Python" star Terry Gilliam directed "12 Monkeys" (1995) with its themes of time travel and a deadly virus which is about to wipe out all of humanity.
The movie gained such a large following that a TV series of the same name was made, which ran for four seasons between 2015 and 2018.
8. Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, Christopher Walken

Answer: Deer

Widely considered to be one of the best movies ever made and a regular fixture on critic's top ten lists, "The Deer Hunter" (1978) also saw Christopher Walken win an Oscar and Meryl Streep nominated for her first Oscar as well as taking the coveted Best Picture award at the 51st Academy Awards.
Director Michael Cimino also went home with the Oscar for Best Director, and won an award with his next movie too, when 1980s "Heaven's Gate" won the Razzie for Worst Director.
9. Richard Harris, Judith Anderson, Jean Gascon

Answer: Horse

Elliot Silverstein, who is probably best known for musical western "Cat Ballou" (1965) directed "A Man Called Horse" (1970) which was based on a 1950 short story by Dorothy M. Johnson.
Although the movie tries hard not to take sides or present either race as "good guys", and has part of its dialogue in the Sioux language, it attracted criticism for using white actors to play the parts of Native Americans in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience.
Among the cast are Australian, Greek, Fijian and Mexican actors, playing members of the Sioux people, along with Eddie Little Sky, an Oglala Lakota actor who also appeared in many western TV shows.
10. John Hurt, Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins

Answer: Elephant

John Hurt's portrayal of John Merrick in "The Elephant Man" (1980) is surely one of the finest performances in 1980s cinema.
This movie was nominated for eight Oscars, but ultimately failed to win one, as "Ordinary People" (1980) and "Raging Bull" (1980) swept the boards.
It did leave us though with the oft quoted line delivered by the Elephant Man, "I am not an animal! I am a human being. I am a man."
