Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening sequence of the movie, we see Barbara Novak (Renee Zellweger) hailing a taxi. The taxi is parked in front of a prominent building in NYC. What is this building?

Answer: The United Nations Building

The group exiting the taxi that Barbara enters is a anti-nuclear bombing activists group. They are protesting in front of this building in particular in hopes of gaining some real attention.
2. When Novak arrives at Banner House publishing, she meets her editor, Vikki Hiller, and Vikki's secretary, Gladys. She is told afterward that the senior editors are ready to meet with her in a room that they give an appropriate nickname. What was that nickname?

Answer: The Lions Den

In the Lion's Den was Theodore Banner's "Creative Team". It had seven members, but only six of them were present when Novak came to meet with them and dicuss her book. They gave only their initials, E.G., C.B., C.W., J.B., J.R., and R.J..
3. Twice we see an aerial view of New York City in the movie, once near the beginning, and again at the end. Each time you can spot a tall building with a sign on the top. What does the sign say?

Answer: PANAM

This was also an important building used in filming "Catch Me If You Can", which also took place in NYC in the 1960s.
4. What are the names of the Bossa Nova triplets that Catcher Block (Ewan McGregor) takes to Coco Beach for NASA's luau?

Answer: Lola, Rosa, and Nina

"You see, Lola shakes her maracas, and Rosa bounces her bongos while Nina is all hands, 120 words a minute."- Catcher Block
5. What is the slogan used repeatedly throughout the movie to refer to the infamy of Catcher Block and his journalism?

Answer: "ladies' man, man's man, man about town"

This slogan was said three times throughout the movie. Twice by Peter MacManus (David Hyde Pierce), and once by Barbara Novak.
6. In a scene where Catcher Block and Peter MacMannus are sitting in the Mahogany Room waiting for Novak and Hiller to meet them and dicuss Novak's book, Peter tells Catcher that he has diagnosed neurosies. How many does he say he has?

Answer: 20

MacMannus is expressing his thanks to Catcher for deciding to do the cover story on Novak's book. Catcher mentions that they have been friends a long time, because he knew Peter when he only had 12 diagnosed neurosies. He now has twenty.
7. Catcher calls Barbara on three different occasions to cancel various scheduled meetings. Each time he uses a breed of dog as one of the reasons he can not attend. What are those three breeds?

Answer: English Fox Hound, French Poodle, and Swedish Lap Hound

The breeds of dogs he picked to identify with his various girlfriends coincided with the nationality of the women he was with at the time. First English, then French, and last Swedish.
8. During all telephone conversations, a method was used called "split-screen" so that both parties could be seen at once. What color was the line used to split the screens up?

Answer: yellow

In the scene where Barbara declares that she wouldn't meet with Mr. Block in a hundred years, they used a yellow lightning bolt instead of a simple line.
9. On one occasion Catcher called up Barbara pretending to be Zip Martin, and asked her to join him at his apartment (which was actually Peter's) for a home cooked meal. While on the phone, Catcher does a series of excercises. How many push-ups does he do?

Answer: 9

This entire scene was hilarious! They had to film for like eight hours to get them both in the positions that would make the scene just right.
10. Catcher allows Peter to "borrow" his apartment for the night, as Peter wants to snare Vikki. When Peter and Vikki are seated on the couch, and Peter suggests that they listen to some music, he turns around and flips a switch in a long row of switches. How many switches are in that row?

Answer: 7

Later in the movie, when Catcher is pretending to be Zip, he takes Barbara back to his apartment, and tells us that "the first switch starts the hi-fi, and the second lowers the light" and they discover the third folds the couch out in to a bed.
