Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Robert Sean Leonard starred in a "Swing" movie in 1993. In this movie, he and his friends tried to enjoy swing music in Nazi Germany. What was the name of this film?

Answer: Swing Kids

Christian Bale co-starred in this feature that won an American Choreography Award. In "Swing Kids", the friends tried to make sense of the world at the time. This movie featured some fantastic dance scenes as well as poignant drama.
2. Before "Couples Retreat" and "Made", Jon Favreau took a "swing" at writing a different kind of movie. What 1996 cult hit am I talking about?

Answer: Swingers

Vince Vaughn and Ron Livingston joined Favreau in this unusual look at the male psyche. It has been described as "the perfect guy movie".
3. One "Swing" was the movie responsible for the long-time relationship between power couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. What 1984 movie about life during World War II was this?

Answer: Swing Shift

Kurt and Goldie met, fell in love, and moved in together during the shooting of this film. In it, a woman tried to adjust to life after her husband enlisted during the second World War.
4. Kevin Costner took a "swing" at comedy in a 2008 film. What was this humorous look at politics?

Answer: Swing Vote

In "Swing Vote", some very strange and implausible circumstances made Bud Johnson's (Kevin Costner's) vote the deciding one in a presidential election. He had two weeks to decide the fate of the country.
5. In 1936, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers took the opportunity to swing in a movie. Which one?

Answer: Swing Time

In "Swing Time", Lucky Garnett (Fred Astaire) traveled to New York City to raise $25,000. He found a lot more than that in the Big Apple.
6. In which movie did the command "Swing away, Merrill" become pivotal?

Answer: Signs (2002)

("Signs" spoiler follows:) In "Signs", Merrill saved his family by swinging his baseball bat. The quote ("Swing away, Merrill") came from his sister-in-law at the scene of her horrific death.
7. What movie featured a caddy saying the following: "I hear you lost your swing. I guess we got to go find it."?

Answer: The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)

Will Smith and Matt Damon made this golf movie about a veteran returning to the game to save a woman and a town (and perhaps himself). In order to do this, Damon's character has to recover his "authentic swing".
8. Which baseball movie remake contained the quote, "You guys swing like Helen Keller at a Piņata party."?

Answer: The Bad News Bears (2005)

Billy Bob Thornton took on Walter Matthau's iconic role in this well-received remake. It's the endearing story of a former baseball player who coaches a motley team of 12-year-olds. In this case, the ne'er-do-well players on the team were making fun of a batter on an opposing team.
9. Which movie featured the football play called the "Swinging Gate"?

Answer: The Longest Yard (2005)

"The Swinging Gate" is a desperation play rarely used in football. You can see an example of it at the end of Adam Sandler's remake about a group of prisoners trying to prove themselves through a football game against the guards.
10. In what has been called "the most memorably malevolent scene" in movies, where would you see Tippi Hedren smoking a cigarette on a schoolyard swing while evil gathers all around her?

Answer: The Birds (1963)

In "The Birds", the birds in a small town (and presumably more places) banded together to attack the town's inhabitants. In this particular scene, Melanie (played by Tippi Hedren), smoked while hundreds of crows gathered behind her. It took director Alfred Hitchcock three years to prepare to make this film and its memorable scenes.
