Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The story started with Steve Rogers as a 5'4", 95lb weakling determined to join the army. What did Steve give Dr. Erskine as his motive to enlist?

Answer: He didn't like bullies.

Steve's character was outlined from the beginning and remained constant throughout the series. He was never about blindly serving his country, but about standing up for the little guys and for personal freedom.
2. Where were they when Howard Stark invited Peggy Carter to a "midnight fondue" in front of Steve?

Answer: On a plane

Howard was piloting the plane that took Steve on his rescue mission against orders. Steve mistook "fondue" to mean something naughty. Later he found out it was just bread and cheese.
3. When Steve sat down with Bucky in the pub after recruiting the Howling Commandos, which song were the men singing in the background?

Answer: There Is a Tavern in the Town

Part of the lyrics were about how best friends must part, which could be seen as foreshadowing of the whole friendship arc. When Peggy walked in to talk to Steve the crowd were singing about a "damsel dark".
4. When Steve asked Peggy what she thought of the vibranium shield, she fired a gun at him. Why?

Answer: She caught him kissing another girl.

She got mad when she saw Private Lorraine kissing him. Steve managed to kiss a different girl in each movie (two in "The First Avenger").
5. What was the name of Red Skull's plane?

Answer: The Valkyrie

In addressing his troops Red Skull mentioned "victory on the wings of the Valkyrie". Steve eventually crashed it in the Arctic.
6. At the beginning of "The Winter Soldier", Natasha was trying to set Steve up with various girls. What reason did he give for declining?

Answer: Too busy

Later he said it was hard to find someone with shared life experience. He did try to ask out his next door neighbor though, before she turned out to be Agent 13.
7. Steve met Sam Wilson and they hit it off right away. What did Sam say he liked about his job as counselor at the VA?

Answer: Nobody gave him orders.

His exact words were "The number of people giving me orders are down to about zero, so hell yeah." No wonder he would come out vehemently against government control in "Civil War".
8. The morning after Steve saved her from the missile attack, Natasha asked him, "If it was down to me to save your life, would you trust me to do it?" What was his answer?

Answer: I would now

Steve's friendship with Natasha deepened throughout the movie. In "Civil War" she eventually made good on her words and saved him in the airport fight.
9. During their fight on the Helicarrier, the Winter Soldier took hold of the targeting chip. What did Cap do to him to make him drop it?

Answer: He choked him until he passed out.

He first broke Bucky's human arm and then proceeded to strangle him unconscious. Only after he was done saving the world did Cap lay down his shield and submit himself to His friend's mercy.
10. In "The Winter Soldier", how did Steve find out the Starks were assassinated by HYDRA?

Answer: The AI form of Zola showed him.

One question the audience might have about the plot twist near the end of "Civil War" is: When did Steve learn about the murder of Tony's parents? The answer lies in "The Winter Soldier". During Zola's presentation of HYDRA's activities over the years, a newspaper report of the Starks' death flashed on the screen.

Zola didn't flat out say they were killed by the Winter Soldier, so in "Civil War" Steve could say he didn't know it was him. It wasn't hard to connect the dots though. When pressed by Tony he had to admit, yes, deep down he knew.
11. In "Civil War", which city was Bucky found to be hiding in?

Answer: Bucharest

We saw him buy plums in the market, haggling with the fruit vendors in Romanian. He had been living a quiet life, and no one was able to find the Winter Soldier in two years.
12. Peggy knew her niece Sharon once posed as Steve's neighbor, and gave her blessings for their relationship.

Answer: False

Sharon did not tell Peggy because she didn't want Peggy to have to keep a secret from Steve. Steve only found out Sharon was Peggy's niece at the funeral.
13. After Steve and Bucky were captured and brought to Berlin, Natasha accused Steve of making things worse. How did Steve reply?

Answer: "He's alive."

This exchange pretty much summed up Steve's deep (brotherly) love for Bucky and the length he would go to protect him. The bromance theme weaves through the trilogy and gets stronger with each iteration.
14. What did Tony call Bucky when he arrived at the Siberian base?

Answer: Manchurian Candidate

Tony clearly knew Bucky was brainwashed, but it didn't matter anymore when he watched his parents brutally killed by the Winter Soldier.
15. Who ended up with Captain America's Shield at the end of "Civil War"?

Answer: Tony Stark

When Tony said Steve didn't deserve the shield, Steve dropped it and walked away. Presumably he was giving up the Captain America identity and embracing the Steve Rogers persona, bringing his character arc to full circle.
