George Clooney really brought the character of Everett to life. Even though Everett was a fast-talking liar who took advantage of his friends, you couldn't help but love him!

After Delmar was baptized in the river, the preacher said Delmar was free from all his previous sins. In the words of Delmar, "It's the straight and narrow from here on out, and Heaven Everlasting is my reward."

Everett initially told Pete and Delmar that he was in prison for stealing $1.2 million dollars from an armored car. Everett told Pete and Delmar that he hid the money in his cabin, and that they should break out of the prison farm and retrieve the money. Delmar and Pete were Everett's chain mates on the prison farm, so Everett couldn't escape unless Pete and Delmar escaped, too. Later in the movie Everett and Delmar got separated from Pete for a while.

They later met up again, and Everett told them the truth: there was no treasure. Everett was sent to the prison farm for practicing law without a license, and the reason Everett wanted to escape was to stop his wife from remarrying. Needless to say, Pete was enraged, and Delmar was dumbfounded.

After they picked Tommy up, someone asked Tommy why he was at the crossroads. Tommy replied that he was there last night at midnight to sell his soul to the Devil. Delmar, who had just been baptized, was shocked. Tommy's story seemed to parallel the story of bluesman Robert Johnson.

This was one of the funniest scenes in the movie! At first Delmar saw something pulsating under Pete's shirt. He thought the sirens had left Pete's heart, still beating. Then the frog jumped out and Delmar exclaimed, "Those sirens loved him up and turned him into a horny toad!" So funny!

Answer: Bible Salesman

Big Dan was a Bible salesman, and he mentioned that Bibles were selling like crazy because America was in the middle of the Great Depression, and people wanted answers. Big Dan suggested that Everett and Delmar accompany him on a picnic. While they were picnicking, Big Dan broke a branch off of a tree, beat Everett and Delmar, and stole all of their money.

He also cruelly killed the toad that Delmar mistakenly thought was Pete. Poor, simple-minded Delmar was crushed when this happened.

Answer: He got hit by a train

When Everett saw his daughters performing at a concert for governor candidate Homer Stokes, he ran up and gave them a hug. The girls told Everett that their mother said he'd been hit by a train.

Answer: You Are My Sunshine

Pappy eventually won the election, because Homer Stokes revealed that he was a member of the Ku Klux Klan at a benefit concert for Pappy O'Daniels. This concert was broadcast over the radio, and Homer Stokes lost his popularity with the Mississippi voters.

Answer: Men from the bank

Towards the beginning of the movie, Pete took Delmar and Everett to his cousin Wash Hogwallop's house, so that Wash could remove their chains. The boy had been told by Wash to shoot anyone from the bank, or anyone with "papers".

Answer: Mr. Lund

We learned the man's name when he and another man were discussing the Soggy Bottom Boys. When the other man learned Mr. Lund didn't sign the Soggy Bottom Boys to a contract, he exclaimed, "Hell's Bells, Mr. Lund!"
