In the beginning of the film, the world grieves over the loss of 'Baby Diego' and news reports constantly air about the life and times of this celebrity, who was the last person on Earth to be born following the infertility of the human population. In the beginning, Theo buys a cup of coffee shortly before a bomb explodes a few stores away.

This causes him to begin to lose his hearing. The bombs are a result of an uprising led by so-called 'terrorists'.

Throughout the film, various media outlets advertise the drug known as Quietus which will instantly stop all vital organs and kill the consumer. The government and media promote this, considering the way that people are living in this time (the year 2027) with the uprisings, bomb threats, abductions, and eventual demise of the human race.

Julian and Theo were once married and had a child together. Unfortunately, their child died during the great flu pandemic of 2008 and their relationship died soon after. Now, Julian asks Theo to help her obtain passports and travel permits for a refugee. Normally, refugees are kept in concentration camps in designated areas of the country, but with Theo's connections (and Julian's trust in him), they may have a chance.

Theo is able to obtain the correct papers from his cousin, but they specify that Theo must accompany Kee on her trip. While Luke drives Kee, Theo, Miriam, and Julian to a security checkpoint, they are ambushed by a group of people in the country and they are forced to turn around. On the way, Julian is shot in the neck.

She passes away during the escape and she is buried in the forest. Luke also kills two cops on the way out so that they could get Kee to her destination faster.

Luke takes Theo, Kee, and Miriam to the Fishes' farmhouse to discuss what to do and Kee reveals to Theo that she is pregnant (and the first to be so in decades). When Theo overhears that is was Luke's plan to have Julian assassinated, he flees the farmhouse with Kee and Miriam.

They head to Jasper's house where he keeps them safe for the night. The next day, they find that The Fishes have followed them and they escape out a back route. Jasper gives a dose of Quietus to his semi-catatonic wife and prevents anyone from finding out Theo's destination.

He is shot and killed outside his home.

After leaving Jasper's house, Theo takes Kee and Miriam to an abandoned school where they wait for a cop that Jasper has connections with. When he arrives, Theo is told to call him a 'Fascist Pig' as a code to assure Syd that they are friends. Syd manages to let them enter the security areas for the refugees and they board the bus to Bexhill.

Before boarding the bus to the Bexhill camp, Kee begins having contractions and Theo and Miriam fight to keep her quiet. When they begin passing by murdered and tortured refugees her water breaks and the bus stops. In order to distract the guards, Miriam begins shouting religious prayers and gets herself removed from the bus.

They drive away as Miriam is hooded and taken aside. Theo and Kee remain on the bus due to Miriam's distraction and Theo's quick thinking during the situation and they end up finishing their journey to Bexhill's camp.

Answer: Theo has the assistance of Marichka during the birth.

After arriving in Bexhill and making their way through the security gates, Theo and Kee find Marichka, Syd's contact, and they are taken to a safe place where they can spend their only night in the camp. Here, Kee has no choice but to give birth to the baby.

Theo is able to deliver the child on his own. The following morning, Syd and Marichka discover the child. Marichka is amazed, but Syd decides to hold Kee and Theo at gunpoint for the baby. The two escape out a back door while Syd is beaten and held back by Theo.

They hide at another location where they are really safe for a few hours.

While heading to the ship that they must reach in time, Kee, Theo, and Marichka are ambushed by The Fishes, who gained entry to the city. Unfortunately, an uprising has also begun and the city is in turmoil. The government has brought tanks to the camp and Luke has taken the newborn (along with Kee).

Theo chases them to a nearby building where they are lucky to escape. Luke is killed when a shot from a tank blasts through his hiding place. The baby in Kee's arms stops the fighting as they leave the building and they are cleared a path through the wreckage.

Kee and Theo return to where they were ambushed and find that Marichka has been hiding as well. She allows them into an underground sewer passage where the two of them board a small wooden boat. She pushes them out to sea and stays in the sewer while they leave.

In the sea they reach their destination, a buoy where they must wait for the ship known as 'Tomorrow' which is said to take those who wait to a research lab that could possibly save mankind. When Kee finds blood in the boat, she finds that Theo was shot during the battle.

She names the baby Dylan and Theo passes away. Soon after, the 'Tomorrow' appears in the fog, and Kee and Dylan are picked up.
