Daniel's father has passed away. He has to arrange the funeral and take care of the expenses. The funeral directors bring in a coffin supposedly containing Daniel's recently deceased father's body. When they open the coffin, they realise that they've not brought the right coffin and rush back to get the other coffin.

Howard hates funerals. Howard tells Justin he has "got enough of his problems to be worrying about." He has an infection on his wrist which looks discoloured. Howard scratches his infected wrist several times throughout the movie.

Martha and Simon try to make Martha's father like Simon, who is nervous after negative past experiences in her father's presence. Martha, thinking it will reduces Simon's anxiety, slips him what is supposed to be Valium. But what Martha actually gives Simon is a hallucinogenic concocted of acid and ketamine made by Martha's brother, Troy, who is studying to be a pharmacist. Simon is already under the drug's effect when he, Martha and Troy are driving to the funeral.

Daniel's brother, Robert, is a novelist living in New York. He is short on cash, and can't afford to pay for his half of the funeral. Robert's first class ticket is something that he would rather finance than his father's funeral.

Howard and Justin pick up Uncle Alfie. He is moody, grumpy and swears constantly. When they get to the funeral, Justin ditches Howard to go and find Martha, so Howard has to get Uncle Alfie out of the car and into his wheelchair and push him up the hill. Howard has to put up with Alfie poking him with a cane along the way.

Answer: Peter

Peter is played by the American actor Peter Dinklage. Peter is a dwarf with a mop top haircut and is the main antagonist of the film. He is a mysterious man who is assumed by Daniel and Robert to be one of Daniel's father's workmates. He is later revealed to be Daniel's father's secret lover who is angry because he wasn't left anything in the will, so he blackmails the family for £15,000.

Answer: "... bring back the dead."

Daniel's mother says this line when being asked by Jane if she wanted a cup of tea. Daniel's mother is mourning the loss of her husband and she was declining the cup of tea. She says this line sarcastically.

Answer: The Reverend

The Reverend does not want to wait because he is scheduled to perform other services. He tries to hurry the funeral along.

Answer: "My father was an exceptional man."

Daniel practices his eulogy several times through out the first 20 minutes of the movie. The mourners are disappointed because Robert is the writer in the family and they all thought that he (Robert) would do the eulogy.

Answer: Simon knocks the coffin over

Simon, who had been given the hallucinogenic drug made by Martha's brother, thinks that he hears noises coming from inside the coffin, and believes that someone is in there and is trying to get out. He knocks over the coffin and interrupts the service.
