Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Here is a baby with eyes of blue, straight from heaven, right to you." Who said this to Mrs. Jumbo, Dumbo's mother, at the beginning of the movie?

Answer: Mr. Stork

At the very beginning of the movie, storks were shown delivering babies to the animals in the circus. At this time, the song "Look Out for Mr. Stork" was heard. The stork that delivered Mrs. Jumbo's baby was late and had to consult a map. When Mr. Stork was singing "Happy Birthday to You" to the baby, Mrs. Jumbo told him his name was Jumbo Jr. But, after the other elephants saw his large ears, they started calling him Dumbo.

The other elephants were very mean to Dumbo throughout the movie.
2. What does the train say while it goes up a hill at the beginning?

Answer: "I think I can."

The train's name was Casey Junior. It repeated the words "I think I can" many times as it made its way up the hill. Once it reached the top and went down the other side, it said, "I thought I could."
3. What was happening while the song "Song of the Roustabouts" was being sung?

Answer: The men and elephants were setting up the circus.

"Song of the Roustabouts" was sung by the men while they and the elephants hammered in the nails and lifted the tents for the circus. It took place during a nighttime thunderstorm.
4. "I am the voice of your subconscious mind. Your inspiration." Into whose ear did Timothy Q. Mouse whisper these words?

Answer: the ringmaster's

When Timothy Q. Mouse overheard the ringmaster talking about his plans for an elephant pyramid and how he needed a climax to the performance, Timothy thought Dumbo would make a good climax and that it would cheer him up. After the ringmaster went to sleep, Timothy came into his tent and whispered into his ear his idea for Dumbo to be the top of the pyramid.
5. While the elephants are climbing on top of each other for their pyramid performance, one of them told the other, "Gaining a little weight, aren't you, honey?" How did the second one reply?

Answer: "You're no cream puff yourself, dearie."

After all the elephants were in position, Dumbo had to run out, jump on a springboard and land on the top of the pyramid. But, on the way, he tripped on his ears and knocked down all the elephants and the tent. After that, he was made a clown.
6. What song was heard when Dumbo visited his mother in her cage?

Answer: Baby Mine

After what happened during the pyramid performance, Timothy Q. Mouse took Dumbo to see his mother to make him feel better. During the song "Baby Mine", Dumbo's mother rocked him with her trunk. Many other circus animals were shown sleeping with their babies, too.

The song was sung by Betty Noyes. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1941, but lost. However, the movie did win the Academy Award for Best Original Music Score.
7. While the clowns were discussing how high to make the platform Dumbo had to jump off they had this conversation: 1: "Hey, be careful. You'll hurt the little guy." 2: "Aw, c'mon. Elephants ain't got no feelings." 3: "No, they're made of _____." Which of these words goes in the blank?

Answer: rubber

Since Dumbo made the clowns so popular, one of the clowns proposed they make the platform he had to jump from twice as high. Then, the other clowns start yelling out higher and higher numbers. The fact that the clowns said that elephants have no feelings and that they are made of rubber showed that the clowns didn't care about Dumbo's health or feelings.

During Dumbo's performance with the clowns, he had to jump from a burning building into a pie.
8. From the song "Pink Elephants on Parade": "I can stand the sight of worms, and look at microscopic germs, but _____ pachyderms is really too much for me." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: technicolor

After drinking water mixed with alcohol, Dumbo and Timothy Q. Mouse had a vision of dancing elephants. The elephants also sang "Pink Elephants on Parade" to them. Throughout the sequence, the elephants were shown in many different colors and shapes.

"Pink Elephants on Parade" was sung by a group called The Sportsmen. They also preformed the songs "Casey Junior" and "Look Out for Mr. Stork" in the movie.
9. Which of these was NOT one of the things one of the crows said they've seen fly?

Answer: butter

After the incident with the pink elephants, Dumbo and Timothy Q. Mouse were woken up in a tree by some crows. Timothy questioned how they got into a tree and finally came to the conclusion that Dumbo had used his giant ears to fly them up there. The crows were doubtful that an elephant could fly though.

As a play on words, they said they've seen a horsefly, a dragonfly, and a housefly, but have never seen an elephant fly.
10. Who sang the song "When I See an Elephant Fly"?

Answer: the crows

At first the crows didn't think an elephant could fly. But, Dumbo proved them wrong. They sang the song while Dumbo first consciously flew and again at the very end of the movie.

Back at the circus, Dumbo flew during his performance with the clowns. Because of his ability, he quickly became rich and famous. His mother was let out of her cage as well.
