"Evolution" - The Not-So-Major-Plot-Device Quiz

I just finished watching "Evolution" for the second time - it's a good movie, in my opinion. So here's a quiz on some of the more subtle plot bits and pieces - you won't find any "who played which character" questions here.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What mark did Deke and Danny get for their biology paper entitled "Cells Are Bad"?

Answer: C minus

Despite the "shocking statistical anomaly" that resulted in almost the entire class getting an A, Deke and Danny managed to get a C minus each. As one class member commented, "Bell curves suck!"
2. Why, according to the two brothers, are cells bad?

Answer: Because there's only one magazine to read

They were, of course, talking about their uncle's prison cell. "It's ten feet by twelve, and he has to read the same boring magazine every day." Interestingly, both Ethan Suplee (who played Deke) and Michael Bowler (Danny) have appeared in movies with Sean William Scott (Wayne Grey) before - the former in "Road Trip" and the latter in "Dude, Where's My Car?".
3. Why does Nadine want to enroll in nursing school?

Answer: Because she wants to impress the Miss Arizona judges

"Don't you think you'd be happier in a different profession; one where people's lives are not dependant on you?" is the line that Harry Block attempts to discourage Nadine with, but she wants to do it so that she can become Miss Arizona - her pageant consultant suggested it.
4. How much does Ira Kane earn a year?

Answer: $17,500

"Despite being a respectable scientist who earns in excess of seventeen, five hundred a year, I still found time to grade your papers."
5. Near which road did the meteor come down?

Answer: Route 89-A

Harry repeats this while he is on the phone with his superior in the USGS.
6. To what organisation does Harry Block belong?

Answer: United States Geological Survey

He signed up to the USGS over the internet, and they sent him to investigate the meteor. Ira Kane is a former memeber of the US Army Research Division.
7. When Harry and Ira snuck into the army base, why does Ira get to be a colonel when Harry is only a private?

Answer: Because he was a colonel in the army.

That was before Ira tested his anthrax vaccine, of course.
8. What type of ice cream does Harry prefer?

Answer: It doesn't matter - it's not for eating

It's for his... other end.
9. What does Harry exclaim when he sees the field of dead dragon things?

Answer: "Great googa mooga!"

Of course, "Jenkies" comes from "Scooby-Doo", and "By Grabthar's Hammer" comes from "Galaxy Quest".
10. What is written on the front of Ira Kane's army dossier in large black letters? (That's the document that Dr Reed was holding in the court case.)

Answer: Dishonorable Discharge

It says "Dishonorable Discharge" - it's possible to catch a glimpse of the cover as she flips it open.
11. What ended Wayne's first attempt at becoming a fireman?

Answer: He was hit in his privates by the end of a firehose.

He did sleep, but he wasn't failed for it.
12. What is the second alien creature to become oxygen-tolerant?

Answer: The blue primates

The dragon creature that attacked the shopping centre was the first to become oxygen tolerant, which makes the primate that attacked the Governor the second - seeing as it wasn't gasping for breath.
13. What was Harry's reason for accepting a bottle of beer?

Answer: "I just quit smoking."

"What's the use in clean living any more?" was his reason for picking up smoking, but he takes the beer because he gave up smoking a few minutes later. The other two are reasons given by Deke and Danny.
14. Once it was deduced that selenium would kill the aliens, Deke and Danny revealed that the active ingredient of Head and Shoulders contained selenium. What is this active ingredium?

Answer: Selenium sulfide

Makes your hair shiny and flake-free.
15. Last one: What is Harry's star sign?

Answer: Aquarius

"Testing, testing, one, two... this is D.J. Harry Block, and I'm an Aquarius." -- but I know Gemini is better. =)
