Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who wrote the screenplay for "Fallen"?

Answer: Nicholas Kazan

Nicholas Kazan also wrote the screenplay for "Bicentennial Man" and "Mobsters" to name a couple. Gregory Allen Howard was the screenplay writer for "Remember the Titans". Jeremy Iacone wrote the screenplay for "The Bone Collector" and Jeffery Deaver wrote the book. David Ayer wrote the screenplay for "Training Day". Note the last three movies all star Denzel Washington.
2. Who starred as the main character and storyteller?

Answer: Denzel Washington

John Hobbes was a detective and the main character in the story. He started the movie out by saying "I want to tell you about the time I almost died." We learned at the end that Hobbes was not the actual storyteller: it was just his body and voice.
3. Hobbes had to start the story somewhere so he went back a bit and started with the execution of what serial killer?

Answer: Edgar Reese

Jay Reynolds was a character later in the movie who was possessed by the evil spirit. Robert Milano was the police officer who had been dead for 30 years and was also a victim of Azazel. Ted Bundy was a notorious serial killer who was executed for his crimes. Edgar Reese was the serial killer who was possessed by the spirit of Azazel.
4. Throughout the story the spirit sang a verse from a Rolling Stones song. This occurs when 'he' jumps from person to person. Which Rolling Stones song did this verse come from?

Answer: Time Is On My Side

Reese sings this verse for the first time before his execution.
"Time...is on my side...Yes, it is. Time...is on my side...You know it is...(etc)." He continues to sing right up to the point when they threw the switch for his death. After the execution was over the executioner Jimmy began to sing the same tune. We(the audience)had now been given the key to knowing when a person was possessed by the spirit.
5. What was the first strange thing that happened to Hobbes to make him begin to wonder that all was not right in the world?

Answer: phone call at 3am

The phone call reminded Hobbes of how Reese used to call him at 2 or 3 a.m. During the phone call he was given a clue which he and his partner followed up on the next day.
6. During the first murder scene in the movie the detectives found something on the wall of the victim's apartment. What was scrawled on the wall?

Answer: Lyons ??? Spakowsky

Reese asked Hobbes why there was a space between Lyons and Spakowsky when Hobbes visited him in his cell before he was executed. The number 7 was on the chest of the first murder victim. Hobbes found out that Lyons and Spakowsky were both cops who were mentioned on an Honor Roll board.

The honor roll board was then put in storage. The order was as follows: 1964 George Lyons, 1965 name was removed, 1966 Anton Spakowsky.
7. What was the missing cop's name that should have been in the spot for the year 1965?

Answer: Robert Milano

Mack and Lou were members in Hobbes' precinct. Abberline was the inspector from the movie "From Hell" starring Johnny Depp. Robert Milano was the name missing from the board. Robert was a decorated police officer in 1965 but committed suicide under suspicious circumstances in 1966 so the department took his name plate off the board.
8. As the serial murders continued Hobbes recognized similarities in the current murders with those that Edgar Reese committed before he was caught and executed. As the investigation continued, the police department's linguist listened to the tape that was recorded when Hobbes was talking with Reese in the prison. Reese was speaking an unintelligible language. What was this language?

Answer: Syrian Aramaic

The language turned out to be about 2000 years old and only a very few nomadic tribes still spoke the tongue. This was considered a Biblical tongue and Reese spoke it fluently. Hobbes began to wonder exactly what was going on.
9. Hobbes decided to travel north to Robert Milano's old home. While nosing around the house looking for clues he stumbled across something in the basement. He scrubbed the wall and discovered some letters there. What did they spell?

Answer: Azazel

The letters on the wall were AAELZZ which ended up spelling Azazel. Hobbes had to do some investigation before understanding what the letters meant. He found out that Azazel, in the Old Testament, was an evil spirit and it needed a host body to survive.

The word apocalypse was also in the movie but in a different fashion. It was broken up into groups of letters and written on the bodies of the dead victims. As the story progressed the letters on the different bodies ended up spelling apocalypse.
10. What was Hobbes' partner's name?

Answer: Jonesy

Jonesy was played by John Goodman and was Hobbes' partner. Tiffany was another police officer in the precinct. Art was Hobbes' brother and Sam was his nephew. Both Art and Sam were possessed by this evil spirit during the movie. Tiffany was also possessed by this evil spirit briefly while it bounced around in the precinct.
