The owl called Big Mama is perched high in a tree, and sees a vixen with a small kit in her mouth, racing away from hunters. The mother fox hides her baby near a fence post and continues to run, but we hear a gunshot. Big Mama flies over to console the little fox, then maneuvers a kindly woman to take him in. Later Big Mama finds the adult fox, Tod, living unhappy and alone in the forest. Big Mama sets up an encounter with someone special. Big Mama is like a wise old grandmother who looks out for Tod.

2. Tod (Mickey Rooney)
Answer: The Fox
Tod the fox makes friends with a puppy called Copper. The young fox and the hound puppy play happily together for some days, promising to be best friends forever. But Amos, the puppy's owner, ties Copper up, and then takes him away over the winter to teach him to track down prey. Tod misses his friend very much.
Big Mama owl tries to warn Tod that when Copper comes back, he won't be Tod's friend anymore. He'll be a hunting dog. Tod refuses to believe this. When the hunters return the older dog Chief goes on a vicious and valiant chase to hunt down Tod. Copper lets Tod escape, but when disaster happens, Copper blames Tod and turns on him. Despite this, when Tod realizes Copper is in trouble, he rushes back to attack a bear and save Copper, only to find himself at the end of a shotgun. In the end Tod must live his life with Vixey in the forest; and Copper must live his life as a hunting dog, with his human owner. But they part with a smile, forever friends.
The adult Tod is voiced by the legendary actor Mickey Rooney (1920-2014), just one of his many Disney voices. As a pup Tod is voiced by Keith Coogan.
3. Tweed (Jeanette Nolan)
Answer: Kindly widow
The kindly Widow Tweed lives next to the hunter Amos Slade, who yells at her, calling her "woman" and "female" and cursing her protection of Tod the fox. She shelters and loves the fox until she is no longer able to protect him from Amos. She puts Tod in her car and drives him far away to the Nature Preserve, where no hunting is allowed. She doesn't realize danger follows.

Chief is a big gray dog belonging to Amos Slade. He lives in a barrel in the yard of the property, and has been well-trained in hunting "varmints". He doesn't like the young pup Tod much, especially when Tod uses his hound's nose to easily out-track Chief when they go hunting. But Tod and Chief share a home, an owner and a natural occupation, so a loyalty develops.

5. Amos Slade (Jack Albertson)
Answer: Hunter human
Amos Slade is a simple somewhat bad-tempered man who appears to be a fur trader, so he takes hunting and the care of his chickens seriously. Misunderstanding some confusion outside, Amos thinks the young fox Tod went after his chickens, and from that moment on he's determined to shoot Tod dead, even when it means aiming right at the car his neighbor Widow Tweed is driving. His dog Chief has been trained that foxes are for hunting down. This means the young hound Copper is caught between his friendship with the fox Tod, and his role with his human owner and companion dog Chief. In time, they each have a chance to do the right thing.
Voiced by US actor, comedian, dancer and singer Jack Albertson (1907-1981). He played Grandpa Joe in "Wily Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" (1971), among numerous acting and Disney roles.

Though porcupine's quills are not so comfy.
Voiced by actor John Fiedler (1925-2005). He was in "True Grit", "The Odd Couple" and TV shows like "Cheers" and "The Bob Newhart Show". He was best known for voicing Piglet in the Winnie the Pooh franchise for 37 years, right up to 4 months before he died.

Tod encountered the badger Mr. Digger his first night in the forest, after Widow Tweed left Tod alone there. It was pouring rain and Tod thought he could take shelter in a burrow he found, but Mr. Digger soon made it plain that was HIS home and Tod should beat it. Even a grown moose won't mess with a ferocious badger and his razor-sharp claws, so Tod had no choice but to head back out into the rain.
