Answer: Kate and Brad

Kate and Brad are portrayed by Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. They have been a smug, happy and unmarried couple for a few years. Prior to this particular holiday season, they had always managed to vacation during the holidays, in order to avoid spending time with their fractured families.

They get away with this by telling their families they are out of the country doing volunteer work. Work, like innoculating babies or delousing children, is one of their excuses, when they are really vacationing in tropical locations.

Answer: Fog

While checking in at the San Francisco airport and dressed in the latest island fashions, Brad and Kate discover that a fogbank has postponed their holiday trip. A local tv news reporter interviews them at the airport and the couple's tricks are revealed. Brad and Kate must now spend the holiday visiting each of their divorced parents and respective families.

Answer: Mistletoe

Expecting the worst at each of their four holiday stops, Brad and Kate decide on making "mistletoe" their time-to-go code word. If either one of them find the situation too uncomfortable, they are to use this word as a clue to leave! As they go from house to house, they each learn new things about the other one and also begin to reflect about what they really want out of their relationship.

Answer: Brad's dad

Brad's father, Howard McVie, is portrayed by Robert Duvall. Howard is quite rude, critical and sexist. At this house, we meet Brad's dad, two brothers, nephews and sister-in-law. Looking at the clan, Brad is the most educated and financially successful one of the brothers, but it seems that he is the outcast of the trio. Slapstick comedy ensues at this house. Brad is wrestled to the floor by his brothers and nephews and also falls off the roof while trying to install his father's satellite dish!

Answer: Tim McGraw and Dwight Yoakam

Tim McGraw plays Brad's brother, Dallas McVie. He is a gruff, amateur cage fighter. Dwight Yoakam plays Kate's mom's new sweetheart, Pastor Phil. Pastor Phil is rockstar-like pastor of her mega-church.

Answer: Orlando

Each of the boys were named after the city in which they were conceived. The three McVie boys are Dallas, Denver and Orlando. Kate has no idea that Brad's real name is Orlando. She feels betrayed that he didn't tell her this at some point in their relationship.

This is only one of the secrets and scars that each of them have kept to themselves over the years, but are revealed during their holiday fiasco.

Answer: Nativity play at church

While attending Kate's mother's mega-church, Brad and Kate are volunteered to play Mary and Joseph in the Nativity play. Kate's mom is played by Mary Steenburgen. Her boyfriend is Pastor Phil played by Dwight Yoakam. Comedy abounds while at this holiday stop. In this Nativity play, Joseph steals the show.

Answer: Obesity

Brad found out that Kate was an obese child. The family even brought out photo albums! While obesity is not normally a comical subject, trying to visualize an extremely thin Reese Witherspoon as the obese child in the photos was quite funny and difficult.

Answer: Jump-jumps

Kate takes a pregnancy test while in the bathroom, cleaning off baby spit-up. Her niece barges in on her and wonders what the stick was. Kate says it is a marker. Her niece takes it and runs into the backyard jump-jump with a lot of other kids. Kate wass trapped and trampled in one as a child but faces her fears and goes inside to get the test stick back to avoid embarrassment. With more slap-stick comedy, Kate eventually wins this battle with her niece and the other brats, by retrieving the stick.

Answer: Taboo

Brad, Kate, Brad's mom, her boy friend, Brad's brother Denver and his wife Susan are the three couples that play Taboo. Tempers flare a little when Brad and his mom get uptight over use of the buzzer. Kate and Brad do not play the game well at all and Brad gets frustrated over Kate's long-winded, non-specific clues. Surprisingly, Brad's brother and his wife really wipe out their pitiful competition.
