This movie was very successful when it came out in 1980. The theme of the spoiled society girl transformed into a strong, independent woman is well done. There are a number of poignant moments along the way. Goldie's real-life friend, actress Eileen Brennan, co-stars along with the requisite love interest, actor Armand Assante. One of the funniest lines in the entire movie is when Private Benjamin is trying to explain to her captain (Eileen Brennan)that "I joined the other Army, the one with the private rooms and the condos."

This film came out in 1996 and is based on the best-selling novel by Olivia Goldsmith. Even though these actresses all have unique acting talents, they blended seamlessly in this movie. Stephen Collins, Victor Garber, and Dan Hedaya play the unsuspecting ex-husbands.

The plot of the movie involves the assassination attempt of Pope Pius XIII. Dudley Moore costars with some funny scenes involving blow-up dolls. Add red herrings and mistaken identities to the mix, and you have a proper romantic/comedy/thriller.

Answer: Cactus Flower

The cactus flower of the title refers to the sad-looking cactus plant that Dr. Winston's dental assistant keeps on her desk. Ingrid Bergman plays the stuffy dental assistant who is secretly in love with Dr. Winston. Long story short, Goldie's Toni Simmons eventually falls in love with the neighbor who saves her life after her suicide attempt. What about Dr. Winston? He conveniently falls in love with his assistant, Ingrid Bergman, who's actually closer to his age.

After that happens, the prickly cactus starts to blossom, much like Ingrid's character.

Answer: Overboard

This movie came out in 1987, long after Goldie and Kurt had fallen in love. The chemistry is there, especially in the scenes where Kurt, the carpenter, tries to put Goldie's character in her place. The two play off each other well. You just know Goldie will get her comeuppance in the end and, of course, fall in love with the carpenter.

I really like this movie and I think the pairing of Goldie and Burt works well. The film is based on the relationship of real-life screenwriters Barry Levinson and Valerie Curtin who both wrote the script for this movie and divorced in the same year the movie came out.

Answer: Bird On a Wire

When this film came out Mel Gibson was at the height of his career. Both Goldie and Mel work surprisingly well together in this movie. I love the scene where Mel's character is taking a shower after having been shot in the behind(a pellet) and while he's complaining about the pain Goldie's character rhapsodizes about her anger and hurt over his "death."

Answer: The Out-of-Towners

The film follows a married couple who decide to take a vacation that turns out to be anything but. The unfortunate couple experiences one mishap after another. The original version starred Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis and was a box-office success. I saw the original and the remake. I liked the original a little better. Apparently movie-goers agreed.

The remake was not a box-office success.

Answer: Death Becomes Her

The special effects are amazing in this film. Meryl and Goldie are at their absolute comedic best as rivals who try to kill each other only to discover that they are already dead. Bruce Willis is great as Meryl's husband who is caught in the middle of this female rivalry.

Answer: Deceived

John Heard, fresh from his success as the father in "Home Alone," did a good job in his role as Goldie's art dealer husband who may or may not be who he seems. The death of a museum curator and the theft of a necklace are part of the plot in this well-paced movie. I enjoyed watching Goldie in this dramatic role.
