Years earlier, Frank had solved the puzzle box. Doing so summoned demons called Cenobites. He'd been hoping for new experiences and sensations and he got them. Unfortunately for him, they were in the form of torture. When Kirsty solves the puzzle she tells the Cenobites that Frank has escaped them.

They're surprised, and tell her that nobody escapes them. She claims she can prove it. They let her lead them to Frank on the condition that she can make him confess his identity.

Kirsty risks her life to get Frank to reveal himself. Near the end of the film, it looks as if the Cenobites don't intend to keep their part of the bargain and Kirsty uses the puzzle box to send them back to their own realm. Kirsty is played by Ashley Laurence.

It's the clearly fickle Frank who kills Julia. Frank, who is first revived by human blood spilled onto his remains, isn't exactly in peak condition. He's little more than bones and muscle. His body is reconstituted little by little, as he continues draining the blood of the victims Julia lures to the house for him.

Despite his declarations of love for Julia, he kills her as well, draining her blood in order to speed up his regeneration.

Doug Bradley plays the lead Cenobite. He agrees to their deal with Kirsty, and informs her of the consequences she'll face, should she break their agreement. If she fails to get Frank to confess his true identity, they'll take her life instead of his.

The lead Cenobite has pins protruding from his head. That particular fashion statement led to his being given the nickname "Pinhead" by fans of the film. Oddly enough, the pins weren't part of the original design. They'd intended to have spikes protruding from his head. They drew a grid on a mold of Doug Bradley's head in order to be sure the spikes would be symmetrical. They then placed pins in it to indicate where the spikes would be placed. They thought this looked even more sinister and bizarre than their original idea, so they went with it. Clive Barker and Doug Bradley began their friendship back during their high school days.

Larry Cotton, played by Andrew Robinson, cuts himself and the blood drips into the cracks between the floorboards, touching the desiccated remains of his brother Frank. The diabolical Frank is played by Sean Chapman.

Frank says this while he's pretending to be Larry. He does so in an attempt to fool Kirsty into thinking that the body upstairs is Frank's rather than her father's. A bit of a trick question, I'm afraid.

Frank says this just before he kills Julia, in order to speed up his regeneration. You have to wonder what she ever saw in this guy! Julia is played by Clare Higgins.

Frank says this to Kirsty while posing as her father. The real Larry Cotton had been murdered by Frank and Julia. Frank wears his skin in an attempt to fool Kirsty. Frank Cotton is actually played by two separate actors. Sean Chapman is the human Frank, while Oliver Smith plays the skinless version.

Once the Cenobites have recaptured Frank, this scene makes it clear that they plan to go back on their word and take Kirsty as well. She stops this by solving the puzzle again, which forces them back into their own realm.
