Officer Rhodes is really trying to make a connection with Paris. She shows her experience with men when he is trying to help her get a snack out of the vending machine, as if she knows exactly what he's going to say or try to do.

Larry, the desk clerk, definitely has secrets. He has pornographic pictures of women in his trailer with bad words written across them. He carries a baseball bat everywhere he goes. He got his current job by finding the body of the previous manager at the motel, and just decided to stay.

The idea that this is all a big dream, or fake world is beginning to creep into Ed's thinking. When they talk about their mutual birthdays, they each say, "Me,too." Ed is the last to speak, and he just says, "Yeah."
