Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As a young boy at Camp Crystal Lake in 1957, Jason was involved in a traumatic incident that resulted in everyone believing him to be dead for the following two and a half decades. What was the alleged cause of death?

Answer: He drowned in the lake.

In the original "Friday the 13th", we learn that Jason drowned because the lifeguards were making love in the bushes instead of watching him. The supposed drowning was the "original sin" that brought evil to the area, and the two lifeguards' murder the following year was the first in a string violent incidents that would culminate in Jason's murderous rampage years later.
2. How many people does Jason kill in the first "Friday the 13th" movie?

Answer: 0

In the first movie, Jason's mother Pamela does the killing, all in the name of avenging the death of her son. The story has it that Jason witnessed her death at the climax of the first movie, and took over the killing spree himself in the sequel.

The fact that Jason had survived in the woods all those years after the supposed drowning without anyone knowing is all the more amazing considering that his own mother was in and out of those same woods on several occasions reaping murderous havoc. Accepting this improbability, however, is paramount to being able to appreciate the films in this series.
3. Where does Jason commit his first ever act of murder?

Answer: In a kitchen

In the opening scene of "Friday the 13th Part 2", Jason kills Alice, the lone survivor of "Friday the 13th", with an ice pick in the kitchen of her home, two months after Alice killed Pamela at the conclusion of the first movie. In doing so, Jason simultaneously avenges his mother's death and begins what will be an extremely prolific run as a mass murderer.

The killing is one of Jason's most impressive, considering that, without having had an education or socialized upbringing, he is able to find out where Alice lived, travel to her home, break in, murder her, and return to Crystal Lake in time for the next batch of teenagers, all without being detected.
4. In "Friday the 13th Part 2", Jason's character is still being developed, and he is portrayed quite differently than in subsequent films. What is one way in which he is different?

Answer: He has hair.

For the majority of the film, Jason's head is covered by a burlap sack. However, in the final scene of the movie, Jason throws himself through a window unmasked, revealing long, curly, black locks. In "Friday the 13th Part 3", which takes place in the days immediately after "Part 2", Jason is completely bald, and he would remain so for the rest of his life, and afterward.
5. What callous act, even by his standards, does Jason commit in "Friday the 13th Part 2"?

Answer: He kills a disabled man.

The killing of Mark, or "the wheelchair murder" as it is often referred to, is arguably the most suspenseful and sensational of the film, and is a high point of the series. The momentum of the machete hitting Mark across the face pushes his wheelchair back, and the camera follows it as it rolls off the porch and backwards down a pathway of stairs, through the storm, for several surreal, terrifying seconds.
6. Jason acquires his trademark hockey mask, which he takes from a victim, halfway through "Friday the 13th Part 3". What did Jason wear on his head for the first half of that movie?

Answer: Nothing

There are several instances in which we catch glimpses of Jason, bald and bareheaded, in the first half of the movie, and one of his victims remarks on his hideous appearance before being killed. However, Jason's face isn't shown in any detail until the hockey mask is lifted from his face during the film's climax.
7. In "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter", Jason demonstrates an array of impressive skills which make him all the more formidable a psychotic killer. Which of the following is one of them?

Answer: He can hold his breath underwater for prolonged periods of time.

When Jason kills Sam as she lies in the inflatable dingy, he literally pops out from the unbroken surface of the water. We can conclude that he was either hiding beneath the water the whole time that she lay in the dingy, or that he was able to enter the water from shore and swim to the dingy without putting his head above the water's surface. In either case, he would have had to go a considerable amount of time completely under water.

Jason also shows that he can scale the side of the house when he kills Tina by bulling her out of a second story window while standing on the ledge outside.
8. Which one of the eventual female survivors of a "Friday the 13th" movie reveals that she had an encounter with Jason years before in which it is implied that he sexually assaulted her?

Answer: Chris in "Friday the 13th Part 3"

Chris tells Rick, during their heart to heart, about the attack and the traumatic effect that it had on her.

Because of the chronology of the early films, we can conclude that this attack happened very early in Jason's career, and before he had blossomed into a full fledged homicidal maniac. It's possible that Jason was experimenting with ways to terrorize victims at this time, before settling on murder. There is no evidence that this sort of attack was ever repeated.
9. In which "Friday the 13th" movie do we see Jason's house?

Answer: Friday the 13th Part 2

Jason's house is a small, two room building made of scrap materials. It has some furniture, a flushable toilet, and a shrine in honor of his mother. Though unclean and disheveled, the place is not in as bad a shape as one might expect, considering who lives there, and the fact that Jason would have had to build it himself, without any help or training.

This suggests that he probably could have had a decent career as a carpenter, or some kind of tradesman, had he chosen another path.
10. What is the deathblow that finally kills Jason at the end of "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter"?

Answer: He is struck in the head with a machete.

Jason is killed by Tommy, a 12-year-old boy who fools Jason by shaving his head and pretending to be a younger version of Jason. Jason becomes distracted long enough for Tommy and his sister, Trish, to get the upper hand in their battle with him and for Tommy to deliver the death blow, sending the machete blade through the side of the head and into the eye of an unmasked Jason.

Jason would eventually be brought back to life, but his undisputed death would keep him out of action for an entire film, a remarkably long time of decommission when one takes into account Jason's role and importance to the "Friday the 13th" franchise.
