1. What is the name of Hans' pet duck?

Answer: Gertrude

While trapped in a feather storage bin, Alec and Lindenbrook could hear, with their ears pressed against a wall, what sounded like a man and a woman in the beginnings of a passionate meeting. They heard the man whisper "Gertrude" and heard kissing. When the unknown man freed them from the bin, he introduced himself and the duck as Hans and Gertrude.

When Alec and Lindenbrook saw that Gertrude was a duck and not a woman, there were laughs galore. Hans really loves his duck.

Answer: Alec

Alec was played by Pat Boone.

3. How did Lindenbrook get the gun away from Count Saknussemm?

Answer: He threw salt in his eyes

"A Bourgeois trick... so sorry," was Lindenbrook's remark after he threw the salt.

Answer: The chipping off of a piece of crystal from the wall

Lindenbrook chipped it off to take it back with him, which weakened the crystal wall.

5. What sign did Arnie Saknussemm leave along the path to the center of the earth so that someone could retrace his steps?

Answer: Three notches

Count Saknussemm tried to make fake notches to throw the expedition off the trail, but Gertrude uncovered the real ones.

6. What happened to the duck after the raft landed on the beach?

Answer: Count Saknussemm ate her

Hans got real mad and tried to choke the count to death. After the rest of the group pulled Hans off Saknussemm, He backed up slowly ranting about the underworld being his realm, not looking where he was going and fell down a shaft killing himself in the process.

7. What did Arnie Saknussemm write his last words on that gave Lindenbrook the initial clues to where he went?

Answer: a plumb bob

He wrote it using his own blood. It was found in a curiosity shop inside a piece of volcanic rock that Alec purchased as a gift for Prof. Lindenbrook.

8. What was the first item that was jerked away from the raft by the magnetic forces at the center of the earth?

Answer: a concertina

When the concertina flew from Alec's hands, Lindenbrook said, "I asked you to put it away not throw it away."

9. What item did Hans lose in the magnetic field?

Answer: gold tooth

It flew right out of his mouth.

10. Complete Hans' last line at the end of the movie. "If you, ever go, down there, center the earth..."

Answer: Hans will go too.

Hans only spoke Icelandic and could only be understood through the translating skill of Carla Goetabaug. At the end of the movie, Hans wished to impress Prof. Lindenbrook by speaking a few words in English. After Hans spoke, Lindenbrook had a big smile on his face and thanked Hans.
