Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Judd produced, wrote and directed the very funny "Knocked Up" (2007). Who played the pregnant woman in this movie?

Answer: Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl played Alison Scott, a woman who hooked up with a guy (Ben Stone, played by Seth Rogen) at a bar one night, and ended up pregnant. The movie then followed Alison and Ben as they attempted to get to know one another and deal with the pregnancy.

Judd Apatow wrote, directed and produced "Knocked Up". The movie also featured all of the main actors from Judd Apatow's 1999 television series "Freaks and Geeks". Heigl is known for her work on TV, on "Roswell" and "Grey's Anatomy", as well as in other films such as the 2008 comedy "27 Dresses".
2. Apatow produced the Jason Segel-written "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"(2008). What was the setting for most of this movie?

Answer: Hawaii

In this movie, Jason Segel played Peter, a guy who was dumped by his girlfriend, Sarah, an actress. At the suggestion of his friend, Peter decided to go on vacation. He went to Hawaii to try to get his mind off of Sarah. On the flight on Air Hawaii, he was subjected to watching Sarah appear in a commercial for the tourism industry for Hawaii. Not only that, but as luck would have it, she and her new boyfriend were staying at the same resort!

Jason Segel wrote the movie's script, as well as a lot of the music for the film. Most notably, he wrote the music for the movie's "Dracula rock opera", something that he had actually been working on in real life.
3. "The 40-Year Old Virgin"(2005) was another film that Judd Apatow worked extensively on, writing, directing and producing it. At what kind of business did the main characters work?

Answer: electronics store

Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) and his colleagues worked at Smart Tech, a Circuit City type of store where they sold televisions, stereos and other electronic equipment. They also provided expert advice on computers and other gadgets. Andy was originally a customer service expert, but he was also shown, in the movie, as a salesman - for example, when he met Trish he sold her a combination DVD-VCR.

When his work friends (played by Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, and Romany Malco) found out that Andy was still a virgin at 40 years old, they made it their mission to find him a woman.
4. Judd Apatow was a producer of the hilariously funny 2004 movie "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy". Who did not play one of the main personalities on Ron Burgundy's news team?

Answer: Luke Wilson

"Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" was set in the 1970s and was about a very successful news team, headed by anchorman Ron Burgundy (played by Will Ferrell). At the beginning of the movie, his news team consisted of lead reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner), and weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell). Their news world was turned upside down when the station hired a female, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), who ended up being Burgundy's co-anchor.

Luke Wilson was also in the movie, but he played Frank Vitchard, a rival newsman. He has starred in other films such as "Old School"(2001), "Legally Blonde"(2001) and "Alex and Emma"(2003). He also had a recurring role as Casey Kelso on "That '70s Show".
5. In "Superbad", Jonah Hill and Michael Cera played high school students based on real-life people. What were their character names?

Answer: Seth and Evan

Their characters were named after script writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Rogen and Goldberg wrote the movie based on their own lives when they were younger. In the movie, Seth and Evan were high school seniors and best friends. They were pretty much each other's only friends, being fairly unpopular at school. Seth, especially, was obsessed with girls and how to get them.

Seth Rogen appeared in the film as a different character, Officer Michaels. During the night's events, Seth and Evan had some run-ins with the law, but it was "McLovin'" (Christoper Mintz-Plasse) who spent the most time with Officer Michaels.
6. Judd Apatow co-wrote this 2008 film starring Adam Sandler. What was it?

Answer: You Don't Mess with the Zohan

"You Don't Mess with the Zohan" was about Zohan Dvir (played by Adam Sandler), an Israeli soldier who grew tired of his job. So, he faked his death and moved to New York to become a hairdresser. Judd Apatow co-wrote it with Sandler and Robert Smigel. They had actually originally written the movie in 2000, but felt that the movie would not be well-received after 9/11.
7. 2008's "Step Brothers" starred Will Ferrell as Brennan Huff, a fully grown man who had to deal with the trials of a step-sibling, Dale Doback, when their parents got married. Who played Dale?

Answer: John C. Reilly

When Brennan's mother and Dale's father got married, the two forty-year old men had to adapt to life with a brother. Because each of them had lived with their parents prior to the marriage, they all ended up living together in one house. Brennan and Dale hated each other and fought like little kids, but grew to appreciate one another.

Judd Apatow produced this film; he also produced Ferrell and Riley's previous team-up comedy "Talladega Nights"(2006). John C. Reilly has appeared in many other films, including 1999's "Never Been Kissed", 2002's "The Good Girl", and 2004's "The Aviator".
8. Which Jim Carrey movie's screenplay did Judd Apatow co-write?

Answer: Fun with Dick and Jane

The 2005 movie was a re-make of the 1977 film of the same name, which starred George Segal and Jane Fonda. The re-make starred Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni as Dick and Jane Harper, a couple who turn to a life of petty crime when Dick lost his job and they were short on money.

Judd Apatow co-wrote the story and screenplay with Nicholas Stoller and Gerald Gaiser.
9. Which character belonged to the movie "Walk Hard"?

Answer: Dewey Cox

"Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story"(2007) was co-written and produced by Judd Apatow. It starred John C. Reilly as Dewey Cox, a musician struggling to make it big. The film was a parody of a biopic and details the trials of Dewey Cox's life, including multiple marriages, a plethora of children and drug addiction.

Ricky Bobby was from the film "Talladega Nights" featuring Will Ferrell. "Drillbit Taylor" was a 2008 movie written by Seth Rogen and starring Owen Wilson as Drillbit Taylor. Leslie Mann is Judd Apatow's wife; she appears in several of his movies, including "Knocked Up" and "The 40-Year Old Virgin".
10. Who was nominated for a Golden Globe for their performance in 2008's "Pineapple Express"?

Answer: James Franco

James Franco played Saul, alongside Seth Rogen as Dale, in the 2008 comedy. Franco was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy or Musical. In "Pineapple Express", Dale accidentally became a witness to a murder involving drug lords, and he and his friend Saul dealt with the aftermath. The screenplay was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, with input from Judd Apatow. Apatow also produced. Rogen had originally wanted himself to play the role of Saul, but Judd Apatow wanted James Franco for the role.

James Franco starred in the "Spider Man" trilogy (2002, 2004, 2007), and "Tristan + Isolde"(2006). He was also a main character on "Freaks and Geeks".
