Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which film does June play the wife of a disabled baseball player (Jimmy Stewart)?

Answer: The Stratton Story

This is a great film. It was made in 1949 and directed by Sam Wood. It was the first of three films that June co-starred with James Stewart. Stewart asked for June to co-star with him. He called June up one day and asked if she would do "The Stratton Story" along with two other films with Jimmy.

Her response was an immediate yes. Jimmy asked "Do you want to see the scripts?" and June replied "No sir, I just want to work with you." That was the beginning of a friendship that would last until Jimmy's death.
2. Peter Lawford is June's love interest in which musical?

Answer: Good News

June has said this was one of her favorite films that she made. A musical was an odd choice for June because she always says she can't sing. It is a good film.
3. June made "Royal Wedding" with Fred Astaire?

Answer: False

June had to turn down the role in "Royal Wedding" because she became pregnant. It was a shock to her because she was told she couldn't have children. She called Mr. Astaire herself to tell him the news. Jane Powell got the role. This film contains one of (if not the best) dance number of Astaire's career, the famous dance on the ceiling.

It was a great film, but who knows. It might have been better with June Allyson.
4. In which film does June play the wife of a struggling band leader who makes it big during the big band era?

Answer: The Glenn Miller Story

This is a great film. It was made in 1954 and directed by Anthony Mann. Jimmy Stewart gives an amazing portrayal of Glenn Miller. It was the second of three films that Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson would make together. I think it is their best. June Allyson has said this film was another of her favorite films that she made.
5. In which film does June portray "Jo", co-starring Elizabeth Taylor and Margaret O'Brien?

Answer: Little Women

A great adaptation of the famous novel. The story had been done by Katharine Hepburn on film and done after by Winona Ryder, but I think this is the best version. It has a great cast and a lot of heart. This is June's third favorite films of hers.
6. "Meet the People" co-starred June's husband Dick Powell.

Answer: True

This is one of a number of films co-starring June and Dick. They made a great pair on and off-screen.
7. Which June Allyson film does Lucille Ball play a famous actress who attends a dance with a very lucky young man?

Answer: Best Foot Forward

A good film with great music by Harry James and his orchestra. This film was made in 1943, and was one of Lucille Ball's first good films. Lucy introduced June Allyson to Dick Powell on the set of this film. June had seen him in movies, and was taken aback by his looks and his voice. She asked Lucy to introduce the two, and the marriage lasted 17 years, until Powell's death to cancer.
8. Alan Ladd co-starred with June in which film?

Answer: The McConnell Story

A good film. Alan Ladd was a good friend and confidante to June during her tough times.
9. June Allyson co-starred with Dick Powell's ex-wife in this film.

Answer: Opposite Sex

This is a great film with a great cast. It was a remake of Katherine Hepburn's film "The Women".Joan Blondell was Powell's ex-wife and it was awkward for June to do scenes with her. In one scene Joan Collins and June Allyson get in an argument. June was to slap Joan.

The director told her to go ahead and slap all the way through because Joan was going to move. The director told Joan to stay put because June was going to pull back the slap. Well, they both listened and June slapped Joan so hard that Joan's earrings popped off.
10. In which film does June play the wife of a baseball player turned Air Force member?

Answer: Strategic Air Command

This film was made in 1955 and directed by Anthony Mann. It was the last of the three films in which June would co-star with Jimmy Stewart. Not the best of the three films, but the pair had a wonderful chemistry.
