5. Pretty Woman

Answer: Prostitute

"Pretty Woman" is a romantic comedy from 1990 starring Roberts and Richard Gere. Gere plays Edward, a rich successful businessman and Julia is Vivian, the prostitute he hires for a week. The movie has a Pygmalion theme with Edward buying her an expensive wardrobe and introducing her to high society; then comes the fairy tale, 'happily-ever-after' ending.

The original concept was very different - it was intended to be a dark drama about the life of sex workers and it portrayed Vivian as a drug addict with few endearing features.

The movie also took months to cast as Disney did not want Roberts for the part but after everyone else they considered turned the role down it eventually went to her. In yet another romantic comedy, Julia plays Julianne Potter, a New York City restaurant critic who attended college with Michael and the pair have remained friends with a pact to marry each other if they are both still single at 28.

A few weeks before this deadline Michael phones Julianne to say he has fallen in love and is getting married. Of course Julianne now realizes that she loves him and flies out to Chicago to break the relationship up. However, in an unexpected twist, she does not succeed, Michael loves Kimmy and the pair marry at the end of the movie.
