Seen through the eyes of a radio jockey played by Robin Williams, the story is inspired by the real life experiences of American DJ Adrian Cronauer. Williams' performance earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

9. The Grand ___ Hotel

Written and directed by Wes Anderson, the film has Ralph Fiennes playing a concierge at the eponymous hotel. When he finds himself framed for a murder he did not commit, he must prove himself innocent with the help of another hotel employee. Apart from Fiennes, the film also featured Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody and Bill Murray, among others.

The film is based on the true story of Ron Woodroof who formed the club after which the movie is named. Diagnosed with AIDS in the mid 1980s, Woodroof turned to various experimental treatments for the disease which involved him having to smuggle drugs into Texas. Woodroof formed the Dallas Buyers Club to share the drugs with other patients in the same situation.

The role of Woodroof was essayed by Matthew McConaughey who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance.
